Housekeeper
Position Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, visitors, and contractors throughout the long-term care home. This role supports infection prevention and control standards by ensuring resident rooms, common areas, washrooms, dining areas, offices, and service areas are cleaned and maintained according to established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, dining rooms, lounges, offices, and other facility spaces.
- Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and disinfect floors, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and high-touch surfaces.
- Empty garbage and recycling containers and dispose of waste according to facility procedures.
- Clean and replenish washrooms with required supplies.
- Spot clean walls, doors, windows, handrails, light switches, and other surfaces.
- Maintain dining rooms, serveries, activity rooms, lounges, and nursing station areas throughout the day.
- Perform scheduled deep cleaning tasks, including floor care, furniture cleaning, window cleaning, and detailed disinfecting.
- Support infection prevention and control practices by following proper cleaning, disinfecting, and waste-handling procedures.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, and supply shortages.
- Maintain housekeeping equipment, cleaning carts, and storage areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Assist with seasonal cleaning and special projects as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure resident comfort and satisfaction.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support resident care and operational needs.
Qualifications
- Previous housekeeping experience in healthcare, long-term care, retirement, hotel, or commercial settings is an asset.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, and infection control practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move housekeeping equipment and supplies.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Exposure to cleaning products and disinfectants.
- Working in resident care environments while maintaining privacy, dignity, and respect.
