Medical Assistants (MA) in the medical office setting supports providers by delivering direct and indirect patient care in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner. The MA may assist with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. The MA functions within their defined scope of practice (based on office type clinic/HOD), under supervision, and in alignment with Mercy's mission and standards of care.

Overview

Mercy Clinic Women's Health at Medical Tower B is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Women's Health team. This position plays an essential role in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting physicians and advanced practice providers in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and current health information
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with examinations and in-office procedures
  • Perform EKGs and point-of-care testing as needed
  • Administer injections and medications according to provider orders and clinic protocols
  • Complete medication reconciliation and update patient records
  • Perform phlebotomy as applicable
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain instruments and clinical equipment
  • Stock and organize exam rooms to ensure readiness for patient care
  • Enter diagnostic, laboratory, imaging, and ancillary service orders
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation
  • Communicate patient concerns, test results, and clinical updates to providers

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up care
  • Manage patient messages and assist with prescription refill requests
  • Process referrals and coordinate specialty care appointments
  • Complete insurance prior authorizations and precertifications
  • Assist with medical record requests and releases
  • Support patient flow and clinic efficiency through effective coordination with providers and staff

Patient Care & Education

  • Provide patient education regarding medications, procedures, preventive care, and treatment plans according to clinic policies
  • Establish positive relationships with patients through compassionate and professional communication
  • Promote patient comfort, privacy, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to the diverse needs of the populations served

Compliance & Quality

  • Follow HIPAA regulations and Mercy confidentiality policies
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and infection prevention practices
  • Adhere to PPE, Quality, and Safety policies
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives within the clinic
  • Assist with Medical Assistant competency reviews when a Lead MA is unavailable
  • Maintain required certifications and competencies

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based healthcare environment
  • Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and customer service

Preferred

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • One year of applicable patient care or medical office experience
  • Experience in Women's Health, OB/GYN, or other specialty clinic settings
  • Experience with phlebotomy, referrals, prior authorizations, and electronic medical records

Training Requirements

  • New hires must successfully complete Mercy's Medical Assistant Clinic Academy training program.
  • Medical Assistants advancing through the career ladder must complete required MA competencies.
