The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) provides high-quality, patient-centered care as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the APP assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages patients within their scope of practice and area of specialty. The APP is responsible for delivering evidence-based care, promoting positive patient outcomes, maintaining professional and regulatory standards, and supporting the clinical, educational, and operational goals of the department and organization.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (ACPNP), Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PCPNP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
2. Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
3. APRN issued by state in which services are being rendered
4. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 30 days of hire.
To be completed as established by department: (Administered at Department level):
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

1. Provide comprehensive, individualized care to neonatal patients and families across the inpatient setting, settings as applicable.
2. Perform clinical assessments and daily management, including rounds, consults, pre-procedure evaluations, identification of changes in condition, and development of differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
3. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures within established clinical guidelines, protocols, and scope of practice, in collaboration with neonatal faculty and the interdisciplinary team as appropriate.
4. Develop, implement, and document individualized plans of care, including treatment, monitoring, discharge planning, follow-up needs, referrals, and patient/family education.
5. Recognize and respond to urgent, unstable, or complex clinical situations and initiate timely intervention and emergency care when indicated.
6. Communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, learners, and ancillary departments to ensure coordinated, efficient, and high-quality care.
7. Document clinical evaluations, plans of care, interventions, and outcomes accurately and concisely in the medical record in accordance with hospital, practice, and compliance standards.
8. Serve as an educator, mentor, and clinical resource for staff, students, and learners, and provide education to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
9. Participate in quality improvement, outcome measurement, research, and performance improvement activities, and apply findings to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.
10. Support program development, practice improvement, and interdisciplinary initiatives, including committees, task forces, and professional activities that advance neonatal care.
11. Maintain clinical competence and professional knowledge, complete required competencies, and use equipment and resources safely and appropriately.
12. Complete responsibilities such as billing, reporting, and other assigned duties in accordance with organizational requirements.

Additional Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: The Advance Practice Professional (APP) is an individual with clinical and medical skills with an expertise in the care of neonatal patients. The APP completes comprehensive patient health evaluations (including biological, social, and psychological assessments), considering their co-morbid conditions and overall disposition; in collaboration with the appropriate clinical/faculty team. The APP assesses and coordinates the educational and psychosocial needs of the patient and caretakers. The APP develops and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, and education of staff and student learners (as applicable). The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students and performs diagnostic procedures and therapeutic procedures.
Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such a service may include but is not limited to.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing (or MEC approved equivalent).
2. National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
3. Licensure or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
4. American Heart Association Neonatal BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion
of the department (PALS and/or NRP).
EXPERIENCE:
1. Neonatal ICU, acute care or pediatric experience preferred.
2. Eligible new graduates will be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Manages comprehensive and individualized care for patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization.
2. Completes daily rounds; consults and/or pre-procedure/evaluations and integrated assessments.
3. With the collaboration of neonatal faculty or by following established clinical Guidelines and Protocols, orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate.
4 Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
5.Consults and communicates with hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
6.Performs succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in medical records.
7. Facilitates patient discharge and/or follow-up by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge necessary for outpatient follow-up appointments in the clinic (as applicable).
8. Performs necessary procedures following established clinical guidelines and protocols and Scope of Practice (SOP).
9. Develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for neonatal patients, which includes teaching, discharge planning and necessary referral to other members of the health care team as necessary.
10.Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
11.Participate in physician and interdisciplinary team rounds (as applicable).
12.The APP will participate in flight or ground transport teams as assigned prn, caring for neonates (in conjunction with other care members) who are enroute to our hospital for the highest level of neonatal critical care.
13.Identifies unstable or complex neonatal patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention in the clinic and/or hospital setting.
14.Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
15.Evaluates neonatal patients and serves as a coordinator for student medical/nursing education regarding management, performing appropriate procedures and interpretation of diagnostic studies.
16.Assists in the collection of outcome measures (as applicable).
17.Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation and management of the individual needs of patients/families.
18.Demonstrates the ability to utilize equipment in a safe manner.
19.Bases decisions made/actions taken on the relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings.
20.Utilizes teaching/learning theory and appropriate teaching strategies in the provision of education to nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families, and the community.
21.Promotes an environment that facilitates learning by responding to appropriate patient/family preferences, patient management priorities, and benchmarks of learning as an educator.
22.Evaluates the effectiveness of patient/family teaching and collaborates with the nursing and clinical staff in the completion of education plan.

29.Communicates effectively with patients/families, physician interdisciplinary team members, medical/nursing learners, student learners and ancillary services at all levels to ensure coordinated efficient patient care.
30.Documents the plan of care, interventions and evaluations in a clear and concise manner for every patient visit in the patient’s medical record following approved hospital/UHA policies and compliance standards for documentation.

36.Promotes and practices innovation of the expanded role in the delivery of care to neonatal patients and families throughout the inpatient hospitalization, and the ambulatory setting.
37.Participates and provides leadership for education, committees and task forces.
38.Documents hours and submits billing reports, as appropriate.
39.Participates in the WVUH/UHA Performance Improvement Plan.
40.Applies information from Performance Improvement activities, changing practice as necessary, to improve care provided to patients.
41.Reviews and interprets neonatal data from sources such as patient registries, clinical and financial reports, length of stay, access to care, and cost per case reports and recommends/implements changes as necessary.
42.Participates in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator.
43.Assists Faculty, Administrators and Directors in the collection of outcome measures.
