DSP Support Coordinator
North Star Oregon LLC
Pay: $24.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience
Travel: Regular travel throughout Oregon
Mileage: Work-related mileage reimbursed at the current federal mileage reimbursement rate
Schedule: Full-time
About the Position
North Star Oregon is a family-owned and operated company, and we work hard to maintain that family feeling as we continue to grow throughout Oregon.
We don’t want our DSPs to feel like just another employee or a name on a schedule. We want them to know the people behind North Star, understand where to go when they need help, and feel supported from the beginning.
We are looking for a personable, dependable, and outgoing DSP Support Coordinator who will travel throughout Oregon to meet newly hired Direct Support Professionals face-to-face after they have completed the onboarding process and before they begin providing services.
You’ll be one of the first personal connections a new DSP has with North Star. Your job is to welcome them to the North Star family, provide their in-person orientation, make sure they understand the tools and information they’ll need to be successful, and help them know who to contact and when when they need assistance.
After orientation, you will continue to serve as a first point of contact for our DSPs and help make sure they feel heard, supported, and connected to the right people.
This position involves significant travel throughout Oregon, and some trips may require overnight stays away from home.
What You’ll Do
- Travel throughout Oregon to meet newly hired DSPs face-to-face before they begin providing services.
- Conduct in-person DSP orientations.
- Welcome new DSPs to North Star and help create a positive, personal first experience with our company.
- Teach DSPs how to use the systems and tools they will need while providing services.
- Review important North Star policies and procedures.
- Review employee benefits and help DSPs understand the benefits available to them.
- Provide and explain North Star’s contact information, including who to contact and when for different questions, needs, or situations.
- Make sure DSPs understand where to turn when they need help.
- Serve as a first point of contact for DSPs who have questions, concerns, or aren’t sure who they need to speak with.
- Connect DSPs with the appropriate North Star team member when additional assistance is needed.
- Follow up when necessary to make sure questions and concerns don’t get lost.
- Communicate important DSP needs, concerns, and follow-up items with the North Star team.
- Help maintain the personal, family-oriented culture North Star values as we continue to grow.
- Represent North Star professionally and positively throughout Oregon.
Who We’re Looking For
This position is about people. We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys talking with others and can make a new employee feel comfortable and welcomed.
The right person will be:
- Personable, friendly, and approachable.
- An excellent communicator and a good listener.
- Comfortable meeting new people every day.
- Patient and able to explain information clearly.
- Dependable and consistent with follow-through.
- Organized and able to manage meetings with DSPs throughout the state.
- Comfortable working independently and managing a travel-based schedule.
- Comfortable spending significant time driving.
- Willing and able to stay away from home overnight when travel requires it.
- Comfortable using computers, smartphones, and web-based systems.
- Someone who believes employees should feel valued, supported, and heard.
Experience
Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is strongly preferred. Someone who has worked as a DSP understands the job from the employee’s perspective and can relate to the questions and challenges DSPs may experience.
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, employee orientation, training, caregiving, or human services is also valuable.
Compensation & Travel
$24.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Approved work-related mileage is reimbursed at the current federal mileage reimbursement rate.
Travel is a significant part of this position. Applicants should be comfortable driving throughout Oregon and understand that some weeks may include overnight travel. Hotels are also covered.
Why This Role Matters
As North Star grows, we never want to lose the personal connection that comes with being a family-owned and operated company.
Our DSPs are the people out in our communities every day providing direct support to the individuals we serve. We want them to know that there are real people behind North Star who know who they are, care about their experience, and are available when they need help.
This position helps make that happen.
You’ll have the opportunity to meet DSPs throughout Oregon, welcome them to North Star, give them the information and tools they need to succeed, and become a familiar person they know they can reach out to.
At North Star, we want our DSPs to feel like part of the family not just part of the workforce.
