Job Purpose
The Director, Investment Accounting directs accounting operations, portfolio reporting, and regulatory compliance strategies. Oversees the accounting, financial reporting, and operational administration of the Company's multi-billion dollar investment portfolio, serving as a subject matter expert on both US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles, while directing staff to meet department objectives.Essential Responsibilities
- Directs the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for our investment asset classes, while maintaining accounting policies and practices.
- Develops and maintains relationships with both external and internal business partners.
- Directs the compilation of financial statement disclosures for US GAAP and Statutory reporting.
- Reviews investment transactions to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Collaborates with other departments to analyze and recommend solutions for complex accounting, forecasting, and reporting challenges.
- Identifies, researches, and recommends process improvements.
- Directs staff and is responsible for personnel actions including hiring, performance and salary reviews, disciplinary action, and termination.
Other Duties
- Directs planning and execution of various special projects as required.
- Ensures accurate and timely completion of all required management reporting.
- Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting principles and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of investment strategy and practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid PC Skills including Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel, as well as experience with investment accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Ability to direct staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Master's Degree (MBA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- 8+ years of related experience required.
