Role overview

We are looking for a Production Engineer to play a key role in supporting the manufacture of advanced RF and microwave products used in some of the world's most demanding defence and communications applications. This is an opportunity to work across production support, process improvement and new product introduction within a growing engineering business.

What you’ll be involved in

The position plays a key role in improving yield, reliability, and efficiency across production, working closely with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams. Operating within a regulated aerospace and defence manufacturing environment, the role ensures that manufacturing, test, and inspection processes are defined, controlled, and continuously improved in accordance with AS9100 / ISO9001 standards, customer requirements, and the company Quality Management System.

Summary of key responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and test operations, resolving production issues and driving improvements in quality, yield, and efficiency.
  • Investigate manufacturing, test, and product failures, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and test processes for RF and electronic products.
  • Create and maintain production documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and test procedures.
  • Support the introduction of new products into manufacture, ensuring processes, equipment, tooling, documentation, and training are in place for successful production release.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and right-first-time performance.
  • Specify, introduce, validate, and maintain production tooling, fixtures, jigs, test equipment, and manufacturing aids.
  • Analyse production and test data to identify trends, improve process capability, and reduce waste, rework, and downtime.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Planning, Supply Chain, and Customer Support teams to deliver operational and business objectives.
  • Support audits, process reviews, and operational excellence initiatives, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to production personnel to promote best practice and process adherence.

What we're looking for in you

Essential experience:

  • Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience in Electronic, RF, Manufacturing, Production, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a production engineering, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, or technical support role within an electronics environment.
  • Practical understanding of manufacturing and test processes, controlled documentation, configuration, and traceability.
  • Experience of structured problem solving, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, test requirements, and production data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions.
  • Competence using standard business and data-analysis tools, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with RF or microwave products, electronic assembly, and RF test methods or equipment.
  • Experience within aerospace, defence, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and / or ISO9001 requirements.
  • Experience supporting NPI, engineering builds, product transfer, qualification, PRR, or MRR activities.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, or Six Sigma methods.
  • Experience investigating customer returns, warranty failures, or FRACAS records.
  • Awareness of IPC workmanship standards and ESD control requirements.

We offer a range of benefits that include:

  • Salary sacrifice-led pension plan that matches employee contributions up to 7%
