About AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused pharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development, and commercialization of prescription medicines targeting some of the planet’s most serious diseases. But we’re more than one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we 're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work.

Introduction to role:

Are you ready to turn complex clinical data into clear insights that accelerate decisions for patients? As a Senior Clinical Programmer II at AstraZeneca, you will lead high-impact programming & data visualization that sharpen trial oversight, streamline data cleaning, and enable faster, evidence-based actions across global studies. You will partner with cross-functional teams to build validated listings, dashboards, and analytical solutions that shorten the path from data to decision. This role sits at the heart of how we bring innovative treatments to people living with cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, respiratory, and immunology conditions.

You will combine deep technical skill with industry know-how to shape enterprise standards, improve quality and speed, and mentor others—so our teams can move with confidence and pace. Can you see yourself setting the bar for clinical programming excellence while advancing a digitally enabled future?

Accountabilities:

·       Advanced Programming and Validation: Independently design, develop, implement, and validate complex programs in SAS, Python, R, SQL, and dashboard technologies such as Power BI and Spotfire; deliver high-quality, efficient code that processes, analyzes, and reports clinical trial data for timely review by study teams.

·       Data Products and Visualization: Build and maintain dashboards and data visualization tools end to end—requirements gathering, data provisioning, development, and optimization—so interested parties can proactively monitor data quality, safety, and operational performance.

·       Reporting for Data Cleaning: Create and maintain a robust catalogue of listings and reports that enable systematic data cleaning and issue detection, improving cycle times and inspection readiness.

·       Project and Roadmap Leadership: Lead small to medium complexity initiatives aligned to the clinical programming roadmap; prioritize and deliver achievements that scale across studies and functions.

·       Standards, Tools, and Best Practices: Define and contribute to processes, reusable components, and best of the industry practices that improve quality, efficiency, and consistency of programming deliverables at both global and study levels.

·       Quality and Risk Management: Build quality into your own outputs and review deliverables from other programmers; identify, manage, and communicate risks and mitigation plans across stakeholders to keep studies on track.

·       Influence and Collaboration: Serve as a subject matter authority on programming topics; collaborate proactively with data management, development operations, clinical, biometrics, and other teams to meet end-user reporting needs and resolve issues quickly.

·       Mentorship and Capability Building: Mentor and coach junior programmers; provide cross-training, technical guidance, and support to ensure the availability and sustainability of high-quality reports and dashboards for internal and external users.

·       Documentation and Compliance: Oversee complete, accurate documentation of programming activities, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, guidelines, and best of industry practices.

Essential Skills/Experience:

·       Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, life science or statistics

·       Accomplished programming skills in SAS/Python/R/SQL/ SQL/Power BI/ SpotFire or other dashboard technologies

·       Proficient knowledge of clinical development process

·       Excellent collaborative skills and the ability to handle complexity and change in a dynamic environment

·       Technical expertise with data capture, data models, data mining, and visualization techniques.

·       Prior Experience and understanding of EDC systems like Medidata Rave / Inform / Veeva and Data Platforms like Saama/ Entimice, SAS LSAF etc

Desirable Skills/Experience:

·       Strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to navigate complexity and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment

·       Broad knowledge of FDA regulations and GCP/ICH guidelines as related to clinical programming processes.
