Description

FinOps Specialist, Air Product

Maersk is a global leader in integrated logistics and has been an industry pioneer for over a century. Through innovation and transformation, we are redefining the boundaries of possibility, continuously setting new standards for efficiency, sustainability, and excellence.

At Maersk, we believe in the power of diversity, collaboration, and continuous learning, and we work hard to ensure that the people in our organization reflect and understand the customers we exist to serve. With over 100,000 employees across 130 countries, we work together to shape the future of global trade and logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enter, validate, and maintain job-level cost and revenue based on confirmed airline, agent, vendor, and customer rates, ensuring financial accuracy throughout the shipment lifecycle.
  • Ensure timely customer invoicing for Air Export and Import shipments by establishing consistent billing discipline across all Air Operations teams in EME, monitoring unbilled items, and proactively following up with Operations to avoid billing delays and revenue leakage.
  • Support and coordinate the CASS reconciliation process, including the reconciliation of airline invoices/statements against shipment records and agreed rates, the identification of discrepancies, and follow-up with airlines, Procurement, and Operations until resolution.
  • Monitor airline and third-party vendor invoices, validate charges against agreed buying rates, dispute incorrect charges, and ensure missing costs are accrued or recorded before financial closing.
  • Take ownership of Inter-Company Billing (ICB/ICP) reconciliation, including reviewing incoming/outgoing charges, coordinating with counterpart countries, accepting or disputing charges, and following up on aged/open items until closure.
  • Act as a financial coordination point for the Air Operations teams, supporting them with billing, costing, accruals, invoice disputes, ICB, financial system issues, and other job-level financial topics.
  • Monitor financial backlog and control reports, such as unbilled revenue, missing costs, open accruals, RTP/workflow queues, and aged financial items; drive timely resolution with the relevant Operations and Finance stakeholders.
  • Ensure cost and revenue completeness before soft close and drive the timely hard close of Air files in line with company financial control requirements.
  • Identify and investigate margin deviations and financial leakage, including incorrect buying/selling rates, duplicate costs, missing revenue, incorrect accruals, and unexpected profit/loss movements.
  • Coordinate continuously with the relevant Country FinOps teams for Air Products, LCL and country counterparts, Regional Finance, PTP, Procurement, and Air Operations to resolve cross-product or country-level financial issues and ensure clear ownership of outstanding items.
  • Support month-end and hard-close activities, ensuring open financial items are reviewed, explained, and resolved or properly accrued before closing.
  • Raise and follow up financial/system integration issues between operational systems and SAP; coordinate with the relevant support or PTP teams until resolution.
  • Maintain clear visibility of aged and high-value financial exposures, escalating material risks, recurring issues and unresolved disputes to Air and Finance leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying the root causes of recurring billing, costing, CASS, and ICB issues and working with Operations and Finance teams to prevent recurrence.

We Are Looking For

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in financial operations, freight forwarding, billing, accounting support, or logistics. Candidates with a strong understanding of operational and financial processes are also welcome.
  • Good understanding of air freight operations, including the relationship between shipment execution, buying rates, selling rates, airline and vendor costs, and customer billing.
  • Knowledge of CASS and airline invoice reconciliation processes is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with ICB/ICP and inter-company reconciliation, including dispute management and follow-up on ageing items.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP/financial systems; experience with freight forwarding operational systems is an advantage.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, filters, and reconciliation formulas.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify financial discrepancies, missing costs, revenue leakage and unusual margin movements.
  • Strong follow-up discipline and the ability to coordinate across Operations, Finance, Procurement, PTP, and teams across different countries and functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple outstanding items while maintaining clear visibility of priorities, ageing and financial exposure.
  • Fluent English, with strong communication skills in an international environment.
