BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE APPOINTMENT:
The position is based within the External Relations Unit of WFP Jordan Country Office and reports to the External Relations and Communications Officer. The incumbent will work closely with colleagues across the Communications, Partnerships, and Reporting functions.
The successful candidate will support the External Relations and Communications Officer in delivering specialized communications activities, content, and services that maintain and enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation, promote donor visibility and recognition, and support fundraising activities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
- Contribute to the implementation of country-specific communication work plans, ensuring effective delivery of communication activities that enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation.
- Perform specialised communications processes and activities, to support staff in the development, preparation, execution and dissemination of campaigns for target audiences.
- Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, visual/photographic and radio projects. Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials in accordance with relevant policies.
- Under guidance, prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities and recognize donor contributions, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
- Serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimise publicity of WFP’s activities.
- Organise and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicised and attended.
- Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.
- Respond to specialised queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
- Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content or planning for activities.
- Manage updates and further develop internal records and databases, ensuring information is accurate, organised and available for others to access.
- Implement improvements to communications methods and practices, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFP’s work to the media and stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of experience, composed of a minimum of 5 years in the field of the position and 1 year in any other field but preferably in the field of the position or related.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Has demonstrated a sound understanding of WFP communication techniques and activities and awareness of the socio-political context in which WFP operates through day-to-day work.
- Desired knowledge of graphic design and content creation tools, such as Canva and Adobe Illustrator.
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Arabic and English is a must.
