About the Role
Alt Legal Assist is the managed services arm of Alt Legal, a leading trademark docketing and management platform. Our Assist team provides high-quality trademark support directly to law firms and corporate IP departments, working as an extension of their teams.
We are looking for a Senior Trademark Paralegal to join our paralegal team in a primarily substantive capacity. This role is focused on trademark clearance, prosecution support, and light litigation assistance. You will work across a varied client base and be expected to manage your own workload, communicate proactively, and deliver work product that is accurate and deadline-ready. Key Responsibilities
Clearance & Searching
• Conduct comprehensive trademark clearance searches using Corsearch, CompuMark, TM TKO or similar platforms
• Prepare and deliver professional search reports with risk analysis and prosecution recommendations
• Perform knockout and full clearance searches across U.S. federal, state, and common law records
• Coordinate international clearance searches through foreign associates as needed
USPTO Prosecution Support
• Draft responses to USPTO Office Actions, including likelihood of confusion refusals, descriptiveness refusals, identification of goods/services issues, and procedural matters
• Prepare and file trademark applications, statements of use, extensions of time, renewals (Sections 8, 9, 15), and other maintenance filings
• Monitor application status and deadlines; coordinate with attorneys on strategy and responses
• Prepare and file Letters of Protest where appropriate
Litigation & Enforcement Support
• Assist with TTAB proceedings, including preparation of filings for oppositions, cancellations, and extensions of time
• Conduct research in support of enforcement matters, including use investigations and cease-and-desist correspondence
• Organize and maintain litigation files; prepare document productions and chronologies as needed
• Draft and coordinate watch notices and infringement summaries for client review
Portfolio & Client Management
• Manage active trademark portfolios for multiple clients simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and organization
• Communicate directly with clients and foreign associates regarding status, strategy, and deadlines
• Identify potential deadline or procedural issues and escalate appropriately
• Maintain accurate records within Alt Legal's docketing platform and client-specific systems
Qualifications
Required
• 5+ years of trademark paralegal experience in a law firm or IP services environment
• Hands-on experience drafting Office Action responses, including refusals on substantive grounds
• Experience conducting and interpreting trademark clearance searches
• Familiarity with USPTO procedures, TMEP guidelines, and TTAB rules
• Strong written communication skills; able to draft clearly and concisely with minimal attorney revision
• Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and client matters simultaneously
• Comfort working in a remote, technology-forward environment
Preferred
• Exposure to international trademark prosecution and working with foreign associates
• Experience supporting TTAB matters or other IP litigation
• Familiarity with time-tracking and project management tools (e.g., Harvest, ClickUp)
• Paralegal certificate or relevant undergraduate degree
