Role Summary

The Assistant Driller is responsible for executing assigned offshore drilling tasks safely and efficiently in line with company procedures, while supporting the Driller in all drilling operations and ensuring full compliance with safety and operational standards.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Driller in all drilling operations, ensuring adherence to safety and operational procedures

• Organize and supervise activities on the drill floor, derrick, mud systems, and pump room under Driller’s instructions

• Coordinate crew activities in line with the drilling program

• Ensure all personnel understand assigned duties and safety/environmental precautions before starting work

• Prepare and issue Safe Job Analyses (SJA) and contribute to risk assessments for non-routine tasks

• Monitor and maintain high standards of housekeeping across the rig, especially on the drill floor

• Ensure all tools, equipment, and safety gear are maintained in safe and operational condition

• Support first-line maintenance of drilling equipment in coordination with the technical team

• Assist with tripping operations and ensure safe handling of pipe racking systems

• Prepare and check equipment for each shift (drill pipes, tubulars, crossovers, etc.)

• Ensure safe handling and operation of all drilling tools and equipment

• Maintain awareness and proper handling of mud systems and related equipment

• Support well control procedures, including operation and testing of BOP and diverter systems

• Accurately complete reporting requirements, including daily drilling reports

• Demonstrate a strong safety-first mindset in all tasks and behaviors

• Use and enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Participate in safety drills, meetings, and emergency response activities

• Follow the Emergency Preparedness Action Plan and understand individual responsibilities

• Report hazards, near-misses, incidents, and non-conformities through proper channels

• Comply with all company and client safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture

Qualifications & Certifications (Mandatory)

• Valid IWCF or IADC Certification

• Previous offshore drilling experience in a similar role 

• Strong understanding of drilling operations, equipment, and safety standards

• English (working proficiency required)
