Client Environment: Public-sector transportation/transit agency
- Lead business analysis activities for transit data warehouse modernization, including requirements gathering, process analysis, stakeholder interviews, and documentation.
- Work with transit agency stakeholders to understand business needs across areas such as ridership, fare collection, service planning, scheduling, operations, customer service, performance reporting, asset data, and executive dashboards.
- Document business requirements, functional requirements, data requirements, report requirements, acceptance criteria, use cases, workflow diagrams, and data-related business rules.
- Serve as a Transit Data SME by helping the technical team understand transit terminology, source systems, reporting expectations, operational processes, and key performance indicators.
- Support data discovery and assessment activities, including review of current reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, source systems, data marts, legacy data structures, and manual reporting processes.
- Assist with data mapping, source-to-target validation, business rule definition, and data quality review for transit-related data domains.
- Help define and validate KPIs, measures, dimensions, filters, and reporting logic for dashboards and analytics deliverables.
- Support data governance activities, including business glossary development, data ownership identification, data stewardship roles, metadata review, and lineage documentation.
- Facilitate meetings and workshops with business users, technical teams, project leadership, and client stakeholders.
- Review prototypes, dashboards, reports, data models, and requirements traceability to confirm alignment with business needs.
- Support user acceptance testing by developing test scenarios, validating report outputs, documenting defects, and coordinating resolution with the technical team.
- Assist with change management, training material input, user readiness, and operational handoff documentation.
- Provide clear communication between business and technical teams to ensure the solution is usable, accurate, auditable, and aligned with the agency’s long-term data strategy.
- Experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Transit Data SME, or similar role on transportation, transit, public-sector, or mobility-related projects.
- Experience supporting data warehouse, business intelligence, reporting, dashboard, analytics, or data modernization projects.
- Strong understanding of transit agency data and business processes, such as ridership, fares, routes, schedules, stops, service planning, operations, performance metrics, customer service, or transportation reporting.
- Experience gathering and documenting business, functional, reporting, and data requirements.
- Experience working with technical teams on data mapping, data validation, report logic, source system analysis, and data quality issues.
- Ability to translate business needs into clear requirements for data engineers, architects, BI developers, and QA teams.
- Experience supporting stakeholder workshops, interviews, requirement review sessions, and user acceptance testing.
- Strong documentation skills, including requirements documents, meeting notes, decision logs, process flows, data dictionaries, report specifications, and test scenarios.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with executives, business users, technical staff, and project managers.
- Experience with transit data sources or standards such as fare collection systems, AVL/APC, CAD/AVL, GTFS, scheduling systems, route and stop data, passenger counts, service performance data, or ridership reporting.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, data marts, cloud data platforms, or modern analytics environments.
- Experience supporting data governance, metadata management, data cataloging, business glossaries, data lineage, or stewardship activities.
- Experience working with public-sector transportation agencies, regional transportation authorities, transit districts, or mobility organizations.
- Experience supporting modernization from legacy reporting environments, spreadsheets, manual reporting, or fragmented data sources into a centralized data warehouse or analytics platform.
- Business Systems Analysis experience in gathering and documentation of technical and business requirements in Transportation.
- Certified Business Analysis Professional — CBAP.
- PMI Professional in Business Analysis — PMI-PBA.
