Job Description - Field Superintendent
Overview
The Field Superintendent is responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, and execution of pipeline construction, maintenance, and integrity projects. This position provides leadership to field personnel, ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, and serves as the primary point of contact between crews, project management, clients, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Plan, organize, and oversee daily field operations for pipeline construction and maintenance projects.
- Supervise and coordinate labourers, equipment operators, welders, coating technicians, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company policies, client requirements, regulatory standards, and health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Coordinate site setup activities, including excavation safety measures, signage, barriers, access and egress systems, environmental controls, and worksite security.
- Oversee excavation, pipeline exposure, coating removal and application, bolt-up activities, sandblasting, and repair operations.
- Monitor productivity, work quality, project schedules, and resource utilization to meet project objectives.
- Ensure required permits, inspections, utility locates, and project documentation are completed and maintained.
- Monitor field conditions and implement corrective actions to address safety, quality, environmental, or operational concerns.
- Liaise with clients, inspectors, landowners, contractors, and project stakeholders regarding field activities.
- Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe condition throughout project execution.
- Review and approve vendors daily reports, timesheets, field tickets, and project documentation.
- Provide mentoring, training, and performance guidance to field personnel.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience
- High school diploma/GED required
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of pipeline construction, maintenance, or integrity experience
- Minimum three to five years of supervisory management experience
- Strong knowledge of pipeline construction methods, industry standards, and field operations
- Proven experience leading large crews and managing multiple simultaneous projects excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
- Valid class 5 Driver's License with clean driver's abstract (No GDL)
- Ability to travel extensively and work in remote locations
