At Omega Technical Services, every role supports a mission that matters. Whether you're advancing national security, driving innovation in nuclear infrastructure, or supporting critical DOE and DoD operations, you’re part of something bigger here.
Overview
Omega Technical Services is seeking an experienced Lead Drafter to support Idaho National Laboratory’s Materials and Fuels Complex. This position will prepare, revise, and check engineering drawings and models, working independently from notes, sketches, and general instructions.
The successful candidate will bring strong Creo proficiency, advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) skills, and experience checking the work of other drafters. The Drafter will help reduce an existing drawing backlog, mentor less experienced personnel, and support the quality and accuracy of drafting deliverables.
Work will be performed remotely, with occasional travel onsite to support at MFC as needed.
This position is contingent upon contract award and/or project funding. Candidates may be identified, screened, and submitted prior to award. Employment offers and start dates are dependent upon successful contract award, funding authorization, and client approval.
Responsibilities
Prepare complex engineering drawings and drawing revisions, including 2D line work and 3D models, in accordance with company procedures and nationally recognized standards.
Work with project and design engineers to evaluate design inputs and establish dimensions, components, tolerances, and design and process parameters.
Perform geometric calculations and tolerance stack-up analyses.
Support the specification and documentation of parts, assemblies, and installations.
Check and redline drawings prepared by other drafters for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
Apply GD&T and provide guidance to correct its use in drafting deliverables.
Recommend design modifications that improve product quality or facilitate construction and fabrication.
Provide field documentation and as-built drawing support.
Maintain proficiency in Creo, AutoCAD, and other organizational modeling tools.
Follow company CAD standards and applicable product data management/product lifecycle management (PDM/PLM) processes.
Manage multiple drawing packages, support backlog reduction, and report progress to project and line management.
Mentor less experienced drafters in drafting practices, modeling, and drawing quality.
Perform other duties as assigned by the BEA Technical Point of Contact.
Education Requirements
- Associate’s degree or vocational certificate in drafting/design, CAD, or engineering technology.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of relevant drafting experience, including checking or redlining other drafters’ work or serving in a lead drafter capacity.
Minimum of 3 years of experience using Creo software.
Working proficiency in Creo and AutoCAD, including preparation and revision of 2D drawings and 3D models.
Knowledge of drafting techniques and the ability to interpret and apply ANSI/ASME Y14 drafting standards.
Working knowledge and application of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009 or a more recent edition, including the ability to teach or correct its use in others’ work.
Ability to perform geometric and tolerance stack-up calculations.
Understanding of engineering drawing types, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical/instrumentation drawings.
Familiarity with American Welding Society (AWS) symbols and procedures.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent drawing packages under deadline pressure.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with engineers, field personnel, and management.
Ability to work the designated Mountain Time schedule and report onsite at MFC as needed.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience supporting DOE/NNSA facilities, national laboratories, or nuclear projects.
Experience using the organization’s PDM/PLM platform and implementing company-specific CAD standards.
Experience reducing drawing backlogs and prioritizing drafting deliverables across multiple projects.
Experience mentoring or training less experienced drafters.
Experience providing field verification and as-built documentation support.
Experience drafting across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
