Job Description:
About the RoleAre you a licensed electrician who values safety, job stability, and giving back to the trade? Our School District is looking for a skilled, community-minded Electrician to join our Facilities team.
Unlike fast-paced commercial construction loops or unpredictable residential service calls, our focus is on preventative maintenance, safety upgrades, and system longevity. Because we work directly inside active schools, your role is as much about people as it is about power. You will serve as a technical expert, a collaborative team player, and a mentor helping to shape the next generation of apprentices and interns.
Essential Physical Requirements
• Regularly lifts 5 to 20 pounds; frequently lifts 20 to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts over 50 pounds.
• Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders; frequent sitting and standing.
• Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
• Regularly required to move around the workplace, manipulating, handling, reaching, and detecting objects and equipment.
• Occasionally assist, position, balance, and support students weighing more than 100 pounds (when assisting school staff during emergency building safety protocols).
Minimum Education, Training & Experience
• Education: High school graduate plus specialized trade classes beyond high school.
• Experience: 6 to 8 years of documented electrical experience (meeting DORA's 10,000-hour requirement for advanced licensing paths).
• DORA Apprenticeship Hours: Minimum of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training to meet DORA requirements, plus a minimum of 2,000 additional hours of on-the-job training as a journeyman.
• Classroom Hours: Minimum of 288 hours of formal electrical training in grounding/bonding, NEC code changes, wiring methods, and theory/calculations as required by DORA.
Licensure Requirements (Strictly Enforced)
• Active License: Must hold a valid State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician License.
• Contingent Offers: If you have met all DORA hour requirements and are currently awaiting your scheduled exam date, we welcome your application. However, any formal offer of employment will be strictly contingent upon verification of your license. Your official start date will be deferred until your license is active and issued by DORA.
• Apprentices: Applications from early-stage apprentices who do not qualify for immediate Journeyman testing will not be considered for this position.

What You Will Do
Core Maintenance & System Reliability
- Troubleshoot & Diagnose: Identify and repair electrical malfunctions in campus-wide distribution systems, branch circuits, panels, interior/exterior lighting controls, and commercial facility equipment.
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine safety inspections and predictive maintenance on electrical components to minimize classroom disruptions and ensure building longevity.
- Print & Schematic Interpretation: Read, interpret, and maintain accurate redlines of electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and building schematics.
Occupied Building Professionalism & Community Relations
- Active Campus Navigation: Work efficiently and politely inside active schools, maintaining a clean, highly organized, and safe workspace around students, teachers, and administrative staff.
- Positive Representation: Act as a helpful, collaborative liaison for the Facilities department, communicating clearly with school principals and building managers regarding repair timelines and schedules.
Safety Leadership & Apprentice Mentorship
- Trade Mentorship: Provide guidance, safe work instruction, and code-based training to district apprentices and student interns, directly contributing to their professional growth.
- Safety Enforcement: Maintain a strict culture of safety on every job site, ensuring all tasks align with the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA standards, and district safety protocols.
Teamwork & Cross-Trade Collaboration
- Interdisciplinary Projects: Partner with fellow district tradespeople (HVAC, plumbing, locksmiths, carpentry) to efficiently complete comprehensive building repairs and facility upgrades.
- Material Procurement: Estimate material needs, verify specifications, and coordinate with the shop lead to ensure the necessary components are available for upcoming maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities:
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Evaluate problems and situations relating to electrical equipment, make decisions accordingly.
Coordinate and delegate work within the electrical maintenance trade.
Repair electrical motors, controllers and starters.
Estimate repairs and projects in terms of labor and materials.
Inspect, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment at various District facilities.
Certifications:
Colorado Driver's License (with no more than 4 points) - Colorado Department of Revenue, Journeyman Electrician - CO Dept of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
Education:
High School or Equivalent
