Description
The Quality Inspector ensures that generator enclosures, paint inspections, electrical installations, and incoming materials meet company standards and specifications. This role is critical in maintaining quality and safety in the production process, conducting thorough inspections, and maintaining accurate records to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed inspections of generator enclosures, ensuring they meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Inspect welds and fabricated components for quality, workmanship, and compliance with welding specifications.
- Identify welding defects, including cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete welds, and other visible imperfections.
- Read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications.
- Verify weld quality, dimensions, fit-up, and overall structural integrity of fabricated assemblies through visual and dimensional inspections.
- Conduct paint inspections to verify proper surface preparation, coating application, finish quality, and compliance with specifications.
- Conduct electrical inspections to verify installation and operational requirements.
- Perform incoming inspections of parts and materials to verify adherence to specifications and quality requirements.
- Maintain organized records of inspections, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit inspection reports to the Quality Manager.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements..
- Work closely with production, welding, engineering, and purchasing teams to address quality concerns.
- Communicate inspection findings and assist in resolving quality issues in a timely manner.
- Assist with internal and external quality audits as needed.
Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects or inconsistencies.
- Familiarity with inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, multimeters).
- Previous welding experience or hands-on knowledge of welding processes, particularly MIG welding, is strongly preferred.
- Ability to inspect weld quality and identify common welding defects.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings is required.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge of quality standards, such as ISO 9001, is a plus.
- Physical ability to inspect products, including bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and standing for extended periods.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment.
- Exposure to noise, insulation, dust, and temperature variations in the shop area.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required during inspections.
