Restaurant Porter - Kitchen Cleanliness Team Member

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Porter / Kitchen Cleanliness Team Member to join our Chick-fil-A Commack kitchen.

This is a dedicated cleaning and organization position. You will be responsible for putting away and organizing inventory, as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, equipment, walls, floors, and storage areas.

Kitchen Porter Responsibilities

Daily Cleanliness & Sanitation

• Clean floors, walls, drains, kitchen equipment, prep areas, shelving, refrigerators, freezers, and other areas as needed throughout the day.
• Empty and clean garbage and recycling areas.
• Identify areas that need attention and take ownership of getting them cleaned, so the kitchen stays “tour-ready”.

Equipment & Special Cleaning

• Perform routine cleaning of grills, fryers, cooking equipment, and other kitchen equipment according to safety procedures.
• Assist with periodic deep-cleaning projects.

Receiving & Organizing Inventory

• Assist with receiving deliveries and putting away food, bread, supplies, etc.
• Keep coolers, freezers, dry storage, and other storage areas clean and organized.

Safety & Food Standards

• Must be able to read and independently follow written instructions, such as manufacturer cleaning instructions or training sites.
• Follow all restaurant sanitation, food-safety, chemical-handling, and workplace-safety procedures.
• Follow appropriate procedures when cleaning hot, greasy, or potentially hazardous equipment.
• Immediately report equipment, plumbing, electrical, structural, or other maintenance issues to leadership, rather than attempting repairs outside the scope of the position.

What This Job Is NOT

• This is not a facilities or maintenance technician position.
• You not be expected to perform electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, or other skilled maintenance work.
• You are not simply a dishwasher or someone who comes in at night to clean the restaurant.

The Ideal Candidate

• Takes pride in doing things thoroughly and correctly.
• Notices dirt, grease, buildup, clutter, and things that others might overlook.
• Can work independently and stay productive without constant supervision.
• Is reliable and shows up ready to work.
• Is comfortable in a fast-paced restaurant environment, with commercial kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals.
• Can lift up to 50lbs, carry, bend, reach, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Will follow grooming and uniform standards.

Relevant Experience Could Include

• Restaurant porter or kitchen cleaning
• Commercial or industrial janitorial work
• School or institutional custodial work
• Food production
• Warehousing or other industrial environments
• Any job requiring rigorous cleaning, sanitation, organization, and attention to detail

However, restaurant experience is not required.

Anticipated Schedule

• Expect mostly early morning and/or daytime hours, with the exact schedule built around the cleaning tasks that need to happen before or outside of peak kitchen operations.
• Some cleaning tasks are not safe or practical while the kitchen is fully operational, so the Porter will have designated times to complete those jobs properly.
• The position would also include Saturdays and occasional schedule adjustments based on business needs.
• As always, Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays.

Pay Range: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour. (Starting pay based on position, experience, and availability. Opportunities for raises and advancement come with tenure and training.)
