 Our client is a well-established, full-service Tier 1
automotive supplier. They manufacture
complex, high value-add metal components and assemblies for several of North
America's largest automakers, mainly in the pick-up and heavy truck markets.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Corporate Procurement Manager, the Capital & Tooling Buyer handles sourcing and managing all capital and tooling purchases. You'll work on a cross-functional team with Engineering, Quality and the manufacturing plants, and you'll play a key role, often as a leader, in new business launches and continuous improvement work. The main goal of the role is to get the best commercial value while making sure suppliers deliver quality goods on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain an approved supply base for capital and tooling
  • Prepare and issue RFQ packages
  • Analyze supplier quotes using detailed cost breakdowns
  • Recommend sourcing decisions based on cost, quality, delivery and supplier financial stability
  • Negotiate all commercial terms of tooling purchases, including payment terms
  • Support on-time delivery by taking part in the Product Development Team (PDT) process
  • Work with Tooling Engineering to evaluate and develop new tooling sources
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and the supplier landscape
  • Find cost reduction opportunities and carry them out
  • Support product change requests and communicate their impact on capacity plans
  • Keep stakeholders informed of supply risks that could affect customer demand
  • Take on other duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • High school diploma required; a college diploma or university degree in a related field is an asset
  • Proven purchasing experience, ideally in the automotive industry with a focus on capital and tooling
  • Strong technical knowledge of automotive processes, components and supply chain management
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with a proven problem-solving record
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to build productive relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers

Capital & Tooling Buyer:

  • Location: Corporate Head Office in North York
  • Salary Range: $85k-$95k annually, with some wiggle room for the right candidate
  • Minimum 1-2 years of purchasing experience
