General Statement of Job:The Pool Lifeguard position is essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons using our aquatics facilities. This role involves maintaining surveillance and enforcing pool regulations, aiding and rescuing troubled bathers in emergencies, and administering First Aid and CPR as needed. This position does related work and is under regular supervision.
- Monitors activities in and near the water through patron surveillance.
- Enforces facility safety rules and regulations by educating patrons.
- Recognizes and provides quick response to all emergencies including rescue, First Aid and CPR.
- Provide swimming instruction to individuals or groups.
- Maintains proper chemical balance of pool water; takes water samples and adds chemical when needed.
- Adjusts and maintains pool filtration systems and pool chemical feeding systems.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Documents and report including but not limited to shift reports, incident reports, facility checklists, etc.
- Conducts safety orientations, administers swim tests and fits life jackets.
- Attends mandatory in-service training.
- Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular basis.
- Meets and greets patrons; resolves conflicts; explains pool rules, regulations, and policies.
- Performs pool opening and closing procedures.
- Performs extensive pool maintenance activities, including handling of pool chemicals.
- Takes part in training programs to improve lifeguarding skills.
- Registers instruction program participants.
- Sells pool permits; closes out and balances cash register and prepares deposit.
- Assists with special events.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Water safety protocols and of lifesaving and first aid practices and techniques.
- Familiarity with the rules for maintaining a safe pool environment, including proper signage and safety equipment.
- Cleaning and maintenance requirements for large pools and related equipment and supplies.
- Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills to direct swimmers.
- Maintaining vigilance and quickly identifying potential hazards.
- Administering first aid, CPR, and AED in emergencies.
- Maintain chemical balance of pool water.
- Work safely with toxic chemicals.
- Enforce rules
- Ability to remain composed in emergency situations, to follow procedures and remain effective in high-stress environments.
- Obtain American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Oxygen Administration class during first year of employment.
- High School diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Must possess current certifications through the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- American Red Cross Water Safety instructor (WSI).
- Administering Emergency Oxygen (AEO).
- Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector Administration.
- Asthma and Quick-Relief Medication Administration.
POST OFFER PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period.
- Abstained from the use of cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products for at least one year prior to their date of hire and shall abstain from the use of tobacco products at all times during the period of their employment with the City while both on and off duty.
- Occasionally operates machinery and/or power tools.
- Occasionally operates motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Occasionally lifts/carries objects 50 pounds or less.
- Occasionally pushes/pulls objects 150 pounds or less.

- Constantly works with equipment or performs procedures where carelessness could result in minor cuts, bruises, or muscle pulls.
When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration that a state of emergency exists, any employee may be deemed essential by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work.
