Enjoy sports, connecting with people, and keeping activities running smoothly? The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a dependable, approachable Gym Supervisor to help create a safe, welcoming, and organized gym environment at our Summit and Berkeley Heights branches.


In this hands-on role, you’ll oversee gym activities, assist members, set up sports equipment, and help ensure everyone follows gym rules and demonstrates good sportsmanship. You’ll help members of all ages enjoy the gym while modeling the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

  • Can confidently reinforce rules and address concerns calmly and respectfully.

  • Enjoy staying active and helping keep spaces organized and ready for use.


What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor gym activities and support a safe, inclusive experience for all participants.
  • Reinforce gym rules, encourage good sportsmanship, and address inappropriate behavior.
  • Set up and take down equipment, including volleyball nets, basketball goals, and gym dividers.
  • Keep the gym and sports storage areas clean, organized, and secure.
  • Assist sports instructors and support special events as needed.
  • Maintain daily activity and facility usage records and keep gym schedules and signs current.
  • Communicate incidents, safety concerns, and other significant issues to the Sports Director.
  • Follow YMCA safety procedures and complete required training.

Schedule & Current Open Shifts

Part-time shifts are available at both branches, with the opportunity to work up to 15 hours per week, depending on availability and scheduling needs.

Summit: Sun. 11am–3pm; Mon. 2:30–5pm; Wed. 6–9:30pm; Fri. 2:30–6pm; Sat. 11am–1pm.

Berkeley Heights: Mon. 2:45–4pm; Tues. 2–4pm; Wed. 2–6pm; Fri. 2–5:30pm; Sat. 7:45–10am and 10:15am–2:30pm.


Pay & Part-Time Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00–$19.00 per hour, based on experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience and familiarity with gymnasium operations and equipment.
  • Experience working with children and/or adults preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within three months.
  • Ability to perform physical duties, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodations as needed.
