Description
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff, visitors, and school property. The role involves monitoring access to the campus, conducting security patrols, responding to incidents, and supporting the school’s overall safety and safeguarding procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Campus Security & Access Control:
- Monitor and control access to the school premises, including entrances, exits, gates, and restricted areas.
- Verify the identity and authorization of staff, students, contractors, visitors, and delivery personnel.
- Maintain accurate visitor and vehicle entry and exit records.
- Ensure visitors comply with the school’s visitor registration and access procedures.
- Prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the school premises.
2. Security Patrols:
- Conduct regular patrols of the school buildings, classrooms, sports facilities, car parks, boarding areas, and surrounding grounds.
- Check for any unusual activities, security risks, damaged facilities, or safety hazards.
- Monitor security cameras and other security systems where applicable.
- Ensure gates, doors, and restricted areas are properly secured.
3. Student Safety & Safeguarding:
- Maintain a visible security presence around the campus to support student safety.
- Remain alert to situations that may pose a risk to students, staff, or visitors.
- Follow the school’s safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
- Report any suspicious behaviour, safeguarding concerns, or unauthorized access immediately to the relevant school personnel.
4. Incident & Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies, accidents, fire alarms, and other unexpected situations.
- Assist with emergency evacuation procedures and maintain access for emergency responders.
- Report incidents to the Security Supervisor / Operations Manager and relevant school management.
- Prepare accurate incident reports and maintain appropriate records.
- Assist in managing crowds and maintaining order during emergencies or school events.
5. Traffic & Vehicle Management:
- Monitor vehicle movement within the school premises.
- Assist with traffic control during student arrival and dismissal periods.
- Ensure designated parking and drop-off/pick-up areas are properly managed.
- Support traffic arrangements during school events and activities.
6. Visitor & Contractor Management:
- Ensure contractors, vendors, and visitors follow school security procedures.
- Confirm authorization before allowing contractors to access restricted areas.
- Monitor contractor activities where required and report any concerns to the relevant department.
7. General Security Support:
- Protect school property, equipment, facilities, and assets against theft, damage, or unauthorized use.
- Assist the school management team during events, functions, and after-school activities.
- Maintain professional communication with students, parents, staff, visitors, and external parties.
- Perform other security-related duties assigned by the Security Supervisor / Operations Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum SPM or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience in security, school security, hospitality, residential security, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working in a school or educational environment will be an added advantage.
- Physically fit and able to remain alert for extended periods.
- Good observation and communication skills.
- Able to respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to work on shifts, weekends, public holidays, and during school events, when required.
- Basic knowledge of emergency procedures and security protocols.
- Possess a valid security guard licence/certification where required by Malaysian regulations.
