Description
The Grounds Maintenance Worker I or II reports to the Grounds Maintenance Worker III.
This position requires weekend work based on the needs of the work group.
The primary job duties of the Grounds Maintenance I include:
- Performs routine irrigation system maintenance, inspection, diagnostics and repair. Including sprinkler heads, pipe fitting, solenoid valves, gate valves, service tees and mainline repairs.
- Prepares and maintains baseball and softball fields which include mound, home plate, pitching rubber, batters box, base anchor housings, infield skin work and bullpens.
- Prepares athletic fields and sports courts for sports activities; measures, lays out, chalks and paints field lines as necessary.
- Performs turf maintenance cultural practices utilizing motorized equipment
- Performs mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, cultivation, fertilization, watering and pruning operations

The primary job duties of the Grounds Maintenance II include:
- The Maintenance Worker II is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by experience, skill level, professional certifications, and the ability to work independently with limited direction. Identifies and reports hazards. Provides co-workers direction, guidance, training, and general oversight on projects as necessary
- This job classification has no supervisory responsibilities but depending upon assignment may be expected to perform leadership activities as required.
- Monitors grounds and equipment infrastructure including irrigation pumps, water treatment, lake aeration, lighting and associated timing mechanisms initiating corrective actions as necessary. Performs trash and debris removal, cleaning, and general landscape maintenance.
- Conducts routine irrigation system inspections; installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation system components. Programs proper watering schedules; troubleshoots and repairs automated irrigation system controllers and electrical systems.
- Prepares athletic fields, courts and facilities according to specifications, utilizing specialized equipment, tools and materials. Replaces, repairs and maintains associated structures and components.

For Grounds Maintenance I:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- Six months previous experience and/or training in grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, equipment operation and manual labor.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- 3 years previous experience and/or training in grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, equipment operation and manual labor.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Arizona Department of Agriculture Pesticide applicator license- Core, Turf and Ornamentals, right of way/weeds
- Irrigation Technician/Auditor Certification
- Turf grass management certification
- S.T.M.A. Sport field Manager
- ISA Certified Tree Worker/Arborist
- Backhoe 1 & II
- Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions, depending on department/section assignment
