Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Field Medical Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high-performing MSL team.
  • Establish field medical objectives and KPIs and monitor team performance against agreed metrics.
  • Conduct regular field coaching, performance reviews, and capability development activities.
  • Identify and address MSL training, compliance, and professional development needs.
  • Ensure onboarding and integration of new MSL team members.

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Lead the development and execution of field medical plans aligned with affiliate and global Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Oversee creation and implementation of KOL engagement plans and MSL plans of action.
  • Cascade strategic priorities and medical objectives to the field team and ensure execution excellence.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs leadership to support annual planning, budget management, and resource allocation.

Scientific Engagement & External Relationships

  • Ensure high-quality, compliant scientific engagement with Thought Leaders, HCPs, professional societies, and other stakeholders.
  • Support MSLs in building and maintaining strategic relationships with key external experts.
  • Monitor progress and quality of KOL engagement activities and optimize plans based on emerging needs and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with key thought leaders and internal stakeholders at country, regional, and global levels.

Insight Generation & Medical Strategy

  • Ensure high-quality CRM documentation and utilization to support insights generation.
  • Aggregate and analyze field medical insights, identify emerging scientific trends, barriers to care, and evidence gaps.
  • Communicate actionable insights to local, regional, and global Medical Affairs teams to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Support participation in Medical Affairs Strategy Team (MAST) activities and planning processes.

Evidence Generation & Scientific Communications

  • Contribute to evidence generation planning through aggregation of field intelligence and identification of knowledge gaps.
  • Support feasibility assessment and execution of local evidence-generation initiatives where appropriate.
  • Ensure MSL awareness and compliance with Investigator-Initiated Study (IIS) processes and areas of scientific interest.
  • Support dissemination of scientific publications and ensure MSL proficiency in communicating emerging data and evidence.
  • Provide field insights to support development of medical content, scientific narratives, and educational materials.

Congresses & Scientific Exchange

  • Lead field medical preparation and execution for key scientific congresses and medical meetings.
  • Coordinate MSL participation in congress coverage, scientific debriefs, and insight collection activities.
  • Ensure effective dissemination of congress learnings and emerging scientific information across relevant stakeholders.

Governance, Compliance & Operations

  • Ensure all field medical activities are conducted in accordance with CSL policies, industry codes, and applicable regulations.
  • Ensure MSL understanding of grants governance, IIS processes, and medical information procedures.
  • Monitor CRM compliance, documentation quality, and execution of Medical Excellence standards.
  • Identify and escalate issues relating to scientific materials, compliance, or field execution as appropriate.
  • Manage activities within assigned budget and communicate budget variances.
  • Support vendor oversight to ensure timely, compliance, and cost-effective delivery of services.

Ensure health, safety, and security at work in compliance with relevant law, regulation and company SOPs

Position Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

Education

  • Degree in medicine, pharmacy, or advanced degree in science (PhD, PharmD) with strong relevant field medical experience is preferred (Level is based on experience and directed responsibility of the role and core competencies)

Experience

  • At least 10+ years of relevant pharmaceutical/ biotherapeutics industry experience. Experience with demonstrated relevant competencies required to qualify for this role.
  • MSL management experience for at least 5 years in like companies
  • Lead and manage a team of MSLs that delivers on the brand strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a dynamic, field-based environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; be able to communicate and teach field medical team complex scientific information and credibly manage informal and formal scientific conversations and presentations.
  • Up to 65% travel including weekends; requires demonstration of effective virtual communication skills.
  • Established operational plans for job area and led field medical project initiatives
  • Experiences in CRM application to support the coaching and development of the MSL team.
