Demolition Technician

Responsible for the safe, precise removal of damaged building materials from properties affected by water, fire, mold, or storm damage. This role focuses on controlled demolition, carefully removing only what is ruined while protecting the undamaged parts of the structure to prepare it for drying and rebuilding.

Key Responsibilities

Controlled Structural Demolition

• Material Removal: Tear out and remove compromised building components, including water-damaged drywall, warped flooring, carpet/padding, saturated insulation, baseboards, cabinetry, and other damaged materials.
• Precision Cutting: Use hand and power tools to make clean, controlled cuts, including flood cuts in drywall, while minimizing damage to unaffected areas.
• Debris Removal: Bag, carry, and haul heavy, wet, or contaminated debris from the property and safely load materials into company trucks, dumpsters, or designated waste containers.
• Selective Demolition: Carefully remove damaged materials while protecting unaffected walls, flooring, fixtures, furnishings, and structural components.
• Structural Protection: Follow established procedures to avoid unnecessary damage to the property and identify areas requiring additional attention.
• Containment: Assist with setting up plastic sheeting, barriers, and other containment measures when required for water, mold, fire, or other restoration projects.
• Site Preparation: Prepare affected areas for drying, cleaning, treatment, and reconstruction by removing damaged materials and maintaining a clean, accessible work area.
• Equipment Use: Safely operate hand tools, power tools, vacuums, air movers, dehumidifiers, and other restoration or demolition equipment as trained.
• Cleaning & Worksite Maintenance: Maintain a safe and orderly work area throughout the project and clean up debris and equipment at the completion of each work assignment.
• Team Support: Work closely with project managers, supervisors, technicians, and other crew members to complete restoration and demolition assignments efficiently and safely.
• Safety & PPE: Follow all company safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), particularly when working around contaminated, wet, mold-affected, or otherwise hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment.
• Ability to work in crawl spaces, attics, basements, confined areas, and other challenging environments.
• Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to work in properties affected by water, fire, mold, smoke, and storm damage.

Qualifications

• Previous construction, demolition, restoration, moving, warehouse, janitorial, or general labor experience preferred.
• Experience with hand and power tools preferred.
• Restoration industry experience is a plus but not required.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
• Willingness to learn restoration procedures, equipment operation, and safety requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
