Location: Redwood City

Join us in shaping the future of biotechnology. Together, we can change lives.

Position:

The Research Associate II will join the Translational Science & Biomarkers team, which supports preclinical and clinical programs through the discovery, development, and validation of biomarkers that inform mechanism of action, indication selection, patient stratification, and clinical development strategy. ImmunEdge is seeking a histology technician or technologist with strong hands-on experience in microtomy and immunohistochemistry (IHC). This is a bench-focused role for a histology professional who can independently section formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens and execute routine H&E, IHC, and ISH workflows. Working under the direction of scientists, the Research Associate II will independently manage assigned experiments, contribute to assay optimization and validation, maintain accurate sample and study records, and help ensure reliable day-to-day operation of histology and IHC workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently prepare and section FFPE cell and tissue blocks, including tumor specimens, using a microtome to produce consistently high-quality sections.

  • Independently perform single-plex and multiplex IHC and ISH staining, H&E staining, and whole-slide scanning using established protocols.

  • Execute and contribute to the development, optimization, and validation of singleplex and multiplex IHC and ISH assays for routine and novel targets.

  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of microtomes, automated stainers, scanners, and related equipment.

  • Monitor supplies and reagent inventory, track expiration dates, and help maintain a clean, safe, and inspection-ready laboratory.

  • Collaborate with scientists, pathologists, research associates, and cross-functional teams while managing multiple assigned experiments and timelines.

Qualifications

  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility; candidates without certification may be considered based on relevant hands-on experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant laboratory experience.

  • 2+ years of relevant histology and IHC experience in an R&D, translational science, or clinical laboratory setting.

  • Ability to work on site and perform repetitive fine-motor tasks associated with sectioning, staining, and slide-scanning workflows.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in routine histology techniques, including fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E and IHC staining, slide quality control, and slide scanning.

  • Hands-on experience with automated IHC stainers and scanners, such as Leica BOND, Ventana BenchMark, Agilent Dako Link48, and Zeiss Axioscan.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently organize and execute multiple assigned experiments while maintaining strong attention to detail and recordkeeping.

  • Ability to follow written protocols, incorporate technical feedback, learn new methods, troubleshoot routine technical issues, and communicate problems clearly.

  • Basic familiarity with normal tissue morphology and common tumor-associated histologic features is preferred.

  • Experience performing IHC for commonly used immune cell markers is preferred.

  • Experience with multiplex IHC and immunofluorescence is preferred.

  • QIHC (ASCP) qualification is a plus.

  • Experience with digital pathology and image analysis software, such as HALO or Visiopharm, is a plus.

  • Experience with basic cell culture and the preparation of cell-based controls for IHC and ISH is a plus.

  • Experience with western blot and flow cytometry is a plus.

Expected Salary Range: $77,360 - $116,040

We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there is sometimes flexibility on job level and responsibilities. Compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, internal equity, and location.
