YOUTH DANCE INSTRUCTOR - SUNDAYS
*Applicants must be available for morning and afternoon classes

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
 
Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation seeks an experienced Instructor to teach existing youth dance classes and/or workshops for preschool, school age and teens. Instructor should be able to lead ages 1-18 in technique in a fun and supportive environment.  Preferred applicants would be available on Sunday mornings/afternoons for the class schedule below with options to add classes if desired.  Classes include pre-k movement, mini-ballerinas, jazz, cheer or others depending on instructor interest and area of expertise.

CURRENT CLASS SCHEDULE:
Tiny Boppers -Dancers work on their coordination and rhythm with classic dances like the Hokey Pokey. Sing-a-longs and ribbons your little dancer will learn self-confidence. Parents are encouraged to participate. 
Ages 1-3; 10:15-10:45 a.m. 
Mini-Ballerinas-Dancers are introduced to ballet with barre, across the floor, and free dance. Parents are encouraged to watch at the end of class.
Ages 3-5; Session 1: 11-11:45 a.m.; Session 2: 12-12:45 p.m. 
Mini-Hip Hoppers-High energy and fun class introducing the basics of hip hop. Using age-appropriate music and movements, dancers learn coordination, rhythm, and confidence while learning choreography in a positive/uplifting environment.
Ages 4-6; 1:30-2:15 p.m.
Mini-Cheer-Jump, dance, and cheer! Learn fun cheer motions, simple dances, and beginner level jumps in a fun, confidence-boosting environment.
Ages 4-6;  2:30-3:15 p.m.

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate dance routines and lessons that both engage and educate the participants.
  • Provide a safe environment for students.
  • Monitor progress and attendance of participants.
  • Follow department guidelines.
  • Represent the City and the Department in a positive and effective manner.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisor, participants, and parents.
  • Be responsible for all scheduled hours and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures
  • Experience with the topic/skill and teaching experience
  • Knowledge of basic child development and abilities for youth classes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, parents, and participants
  • Ability to create and execute a lesson plan for the various age groups
  • Minimum 16 years of age
PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent repetitive motions including, but are not limited to: hand, wrist and finger movements; daily walking, reaching, standing, talking, hearing and seeing. Must be able to move objects up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and up to 15 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Candidates must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License.
