Description

Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre (DCSC) is a charity organization committed to creating a region free from sexual violence. We do this by providing specialized intervention, counselling, and preventative education to individuals, families, and communities in North Central East Alberta.

Position Overview:
The Youth Suicide Prevention Child and Youth Counsellor provides front-line suicide prevention, risk assessment, crisis triage, safety planning, and supportive counselling to youth and families. This role delivers services across school-based drop-ins, community clinics, and group settings, while actively contributing to suicide prevention education across DCSC's service region.

  •      Conduct suicide risk assessments, immediate crisis triage, and ongoing safety planning following agency policies.
  • Teach actionable coping strategies to help youth navigate distress and trauma, building resilience and safe decision-making.
  • Facilitate group counselling sessions as required.
  • Manage intake, case planning, and ongoing care navigation for youth and families, ensuring coordinated support and follow-up.
  • Connect youth with specialized local resources and build strong partnerships with public and private agencies.
  • Partner with the Education team to deliver suicide awareness presentations, information sessions, and resource displays.
  • Deliver outreach across rural, remote, Métis Settlements, and First Nations partner communities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Counselling, Social Work, or a related field with a focus on children & youth, plus 2+ years of direct counselling experience (equivalencies considered).
  • Registered or eligible for registration with a relevant professional body.
  • Strong understanding of client centered interventions, trauma-informed practices, and diversity/anti-oppressive principles. Indigenous cultural knowledge is a strong asset.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License, clean abstract, reliable vehicle, and $2M liability insurance (travel required).
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Intervention Check.
