Schedule: Full-Time | 40 hours per week
Pay: $40.00–$44.00 per hour

At Pyramid Healthcare’s Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center in Newport News, we provide 24/7 medically supervised, evidence-based care for adults receiving detoxification and inpatient treatment. Our structured, non-hospital setting serves individuals throughout the Virginia Peninsula, Tidewater, and Hampton Roads regions.
Our multidisciplinary team provides a supportive environment focused on stabilization, recovery, and long-term wellness.
Summary
The Charge Nurse (RN) provides shift-level leadership and oversight to support safe, high-quality nursing care and treatment services. This role coordinates nursing operations during assigned shifts, supports staffing and workflow, assists with admissions and discharges, and helps ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and organizational standards.
The Charge Nurse serves as a key resource to nursing staff and works closely with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary treatment team to promote continuity of care, efficient operations, and positive client outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide shift-level leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff.
- Coordinate nursing workflow, assignments, and daily operations to support continuity of client care.
- Assist with staffing coverage, call-offs, scheduling concerns, and on-call coordination as needed.
- Support admissions, transfers, discharges, and related nursing coordination activities.
- Communicate client care concerns, staffing needs, and operational updates to nursing leadership.
- Assist with the orientation, onboarding, and training of new nursing staff.
- Promote compliance with nursing standards, medication administration requirements, HIPAA, Virginia licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
- Support preparation for licensing, regulatory, and accreditation surveys.
- Respond to and assist with resolving client, staff, and operational concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary treatment team to support quality care and continuity of services.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling client and company information.
- Complete all required trainings as designated by the company and applicable licensing or accreditation entities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides shift-level supervision, direction, coaching, and support to nursing staff to promote safe care delivery, effective operations, and compliance with program policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Licensure, Education & Experience
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
- Previous nursing leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, detoxification, inpatient, or other healthcare settings preferred.
- Strong leadership, organization, prioritization, and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of nursing supervision, HIPAA regulations, and applicable Virginia licensing requirements.
- Familiarity with CARF or other healthcare accreditation standards preferred.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as required by the facility.
