Description

We Do Consulting Differently

The Integrated Health Solutions (IHS) practice at Berkeley Research Group (BRG) provides end-to-end advisory support to healthcare providers, payers, investors, and other stakeholders navigating complex strategic, operational, financial, and clinical challenges. Led by seasoned healthcare executives, operators, and clinicians, IHS partners with organizations to drive sustainable performance improvement and long-term growth through strategic growth design, operating model transformation, technology, AI, and digital enablement, clinical quality and patient care optimization, and revenue strategy—helping clients build resilient, future-ready healthcare enterprises in an increasingly complex environment.

Our five core service offerings include:

  • Strategic Advisory

  • Revenue Management

  • Operational Excellence

  • Clinical & Quality Transformation

  • Technology, AI, & Digital Solutions

Operational Excellence helps healthcare organizations transform the way they operate by optimizing core functions, improving performance, and creating sustainable value. Our team partners with executive leaders to develop transformation strategies, identify enterprise-wide efficiency opportunities, redesign organizational structures and workflows, and implement governance models that improve decision-making, productivity, and financial performance.

Position Summary:

The Associate Director will play a leadership role in developing next-generation workforce management solutions and the supporting data/product models that underpin them. This role represents a strategic shift away from a narrow focus on staffing levels toward an integrated approach that aligns resource management, capacity management, patient flow, and ambulatory network access. The Associate Director will work closely with senior client executives and internal BRG leadership to design, build, and implement data-driven tools and frameworks that enable healthcare organizations to deliver the right care, at the right time, with the right resources.

Travel Requirements:

Willing to travel consistently (75%), depending on project requirements and client expectations, is required for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop integrated workforce management solutions that move beyond traditional staffing-level analysis to incorporate resource management, capacity management, patient flow, and ambulatory access metrics.

  • Lead the design of advanced models and products (e.g., demand forecasting, capacity optimization, patient-flow simulation, access-to-care modeling).

  • Translate complex clinical and operational data into actionable insights, dashboards, and decision-support tools for C-suite and operational leaders.

  • Develop reusable frameworks, templates, and methodologies that can be deployed across multiple client engagements to accelerate delivery and maintain quality.

  • Lead the integration of resource management (staffing, scheduling, productivity) with capacity management (bed, OR, and clinic throughput), patient flow (admission, discharge, transfer optimization), and ambulatory network (panel-size analysis, demand-capacity matching, third-next-available-appointment modeling, and virtual-care integration) to create holistic solutions.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology, automation, and AI to enhance workforce planning and operational performance across integrated domains.

  • Serve as a primary day-to-day engagement lead, managing workstreams, deliverables, and client relationships with minimal supervision.

  • Facilitate working sessions with clinical leaders, operations executives, finance teams, and IT stakeholders to gather requirements, validate models, and drive consensus.

  • Present findings, recommendations, and model outputs to senior client audiences in a clear, compelling manner.

  • Ensure deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to BRG quality standards.

  • Contribute to the growth of the Workforce Management practice by developing intellectual property, white papers, and client-facing collateral.

  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, opportunity qualification, and client presentations.

  • Mentor and develop junior consultants and analysts, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration, public health, industrial engineering, operations research, or a related quantitative field strongly preferred.

  • 6+ years of consulting or healthcare operations experience, with a focus on workforce management, capacity planning, operations improvement, or analytics.

  • Demonstrated experience building quantitative models and analytic tools that drive operational or financial outcomes in a healthcare setting.

  • Experience working with health systems, hospitals, or large ambulatory networks on staffing, capacity, patient flow, or access initiatives.

  • Prior exposure to ambulatory network operations, including clinic access, scheduling optimization, or care-team redesign, is a plus.

  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one analytical programming language (Python or R); experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).

  • Strong command of Excel modeling, including scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and dashboard design.

  • Familiarity with healthcare data sources and systems (EHRs, workforce management platforms, ADT feeds, scheduling systems) is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of simulation, optimization, or forecasting methodologies applied to healthcare operations.

  • Ability to synthesize complex operational and clinical concepts into structured, actionable recommendations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to executive audiences.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and quality.

  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to client service and team development.

Salary Range:  $150,000 - $250,000 per year

Job title and compensation to be determined based on qualifications and experience.
