Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Geotechnical Engineer/Civil Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will work with a multidisciplinary team supporting major geotechnical, civil, geo-environmental, infrastructure, investigation, design, site assessment, and construction projects across the United States. 

 

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Perform and coordinate geotechnical and civil engineering tasks for remediation and infrastructure projects, including cutoff walls, mines, landfills, bridge foundations, roadways, retaining walls, excavations, and solidification. 

• Conduct site assessments to evaluate topography, soil conditions, existing geotechnical data, utility conditions, construction feasibility, operational constraints, and site-specific cost and schedule drivers. 

• Perform and coordinate field investigations, site visits, geotechnical evaluations, and construction field assignments. 

• Develop investigation programs, review boring logs, prepare subsurface soil profiles, and coordinate laboratory testing programs. 

• Analyze and interpret laboratory and field data, including soil, geotechnical, and related environmental information. 

• Perform engineering calculations and analyses, including slope stability, settlement, and finite element analysis. 

• Prepare design reports, technical memoranda, calculations, drawings, specifications, site assessment reports, maps, and other technical deliverables. 

• Assist with constructability reviews and confirm that designs, materials, and construction methods are consistent with contract documents, applicable criteria, and design intent. 

• Support construction management activities, including site inspections, quality assurance, safety reviews, verification of corrective actions, and evaluation of work for compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, and approved submittals.

• Review technical submittals, shop drawings, material data, testing documentation, and contractor responses to Requests for Information.

• Monitor construction progress and coordinate with project teams to evaluate schedule impacts, differing site conditions, and potential delays.

• Support the preparation of technical recommendations related to cost, schedule, constructability, and proposed changes.

• Coordinate with government personnel, contractors, designers, installation representatives, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

• Support GIS-based site evaluations, digital reconnaissance, site documentation, and preparation of detailed site maps.

• Work effectively and collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams and support multiple concurrent task orders.

• Manage assigned tasks and develop the skills necessary to grow into a project manager or technical lead role.

• Travel for project work, including to remote mine sites and geographically dispersed locations in the United States and Canada.

• Implement behavior-based safety practices to support incident-free operations, including prevention of personal injuries, property damage, and environmental releases.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

• Active Secret security clearance required
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

• 5+ years of related experience in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, remediation, mining, infrastructure design, or construction.

• Experience with geotechnical investigations, subsurface characterization, foundation or earthwork design, slope stability, settlement, or related analyses.

• Experience preparing technical reports, design calculations, engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.

• Ability to coordinate field investigations, laboratory testing, site assessments, and technical evaluations.

• Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, environmental professionals, construction managers, contractors, government personnel, and other stakeholders.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other engineering software applications.

• Willingness and ability to travel for project work, including remote and geographically dispersed sites.

• Ability to obtain required site-access credentials and comply with applicable security, safety, and information-safeguarding requirements. Certain assignments may require access to secure Government facilities.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring 

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Professional Engineer registration or Engineer-in-Training certification.

• Experience with CAD and geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, Rocscience, and GeoStudio.

• Experience with GIS, digital site reconnaissance, geospatial data, and preparation of site-specific maps.

• Experience supporting federal facilities, military installations, major infrastructure, or design-build projects.

• Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria, Unified Facilities Guide Specifications, applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and EM 385-1-1.

• Experience reviewing construction submittals, RFIs, schedules, quality-control documentation, and safety plans.

• Experience with construction inspections, constructability reviews, differing site conditions, and technical resolution of field issues.

• Experience developing Rough Order of Magnitude estimates and identifying cost and schedule risks during site assessment.

• Experience with remediation, mining, landfills, environmental construction, contaminated sites, or geo-environmental projects.

• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training or ability to obtain it.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and developing into a task, project, or technical lead.
• Experience supporting projects across multiple locations and managing concurrent assignments.

Additional Position Expectations

• Employees must follow applicable project safety, quality, security, and environmental requirements.

• Contractor personnel will provide technical analysis, recommendations, and support but will not perform inherently governmental functions or make commitments on behalf of the Government.

Security Clearance Requirement:

An active Secret security clearance is required for this position.​

Salary Range: $88,400.00 - $154,700.00
