Production Assistant Manager

Overview

The Production Assistant Manager is a member of the Production Department at Mobis South Carolina Electrified Powertrain (MSCe) and is responsible for supporting daily production operations for Battery Module and Battery System assembly lines.

This role supports the Production Manager in achieving production, quality, safety, and cost objectives while ensuring stable and efficient manufacturing operations.

 

The position is responsible for overseeing production activities, workforce coordination, shift execution, and performance management while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

This role collaborates closely with Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Logistics, and EHS teams to support plant startup activities, operational readiness, and sustainable manufacturing performance.

Responsibilities

Production Operations

• Support daily production operations for Battery Module and Battery System (BEV) assembly lines.
• Coordinate and support shift execution to achieve daily production targets.
• Assist in short- and mid-term production planning aligned with departmental objectives.
• Support manpower planning and daily workforce allocation to meet production requirements.
• Monitor production output and respond to production issues in a timely manner.
• Support equipment and process changes required to meet production demands.
• Assist with production line layout reviews and operational improvements.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor and improve production KPIs including productivity, quality, downtime, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement (CI) activities focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction, and safety improvements.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Why and 8D.
• Ensure adherence to Control Plans and monitor critical-to-quality characteristics on the production floor.
• Participate in PFMEA reviews and assist in identifying process risks and implementing mitigation actions.
• Support audit readiness and compliance activities for internal audits, customer audits, IATF 16949, and VDA 6.3 requirements.

Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise Team Leaders and hourly Team Members during production operations.
• Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.
• Assist with employee performance management and corrective action processes in accordance with company policies.
• Support conflict resolution and foster positive employee relations.
• Assist in maintaining departmental headcount and minimizing overtime.
• Support training and development activities for Team Members and Team Leaders.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
• Promote a strong safety culture and actively participate in safety initiatives and meetings.
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety procedures.
• Identify workplace hazards and support corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment.

Communication & Reporting

• Prepare and maintain production reports and operational performance metrics.
• Communicate production status, concerns, and improvement opportunities to management.
• Act as a liaison between Production and supporting departments including Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Logistics, and EHS.
• Support management reporting related to production performance, manpower utilization, and operational effectiveness.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

AUTHORITY & SCOPE

Responsible for supporting daily production operations and supervising production personnel. Exercises authority related to shift coordination, workforce allocation, production issue resolution, employee coaching, and operational improvement initiatives.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes, this role will oversee Production Team Leaders and Hourly Team Members.

 

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, assembly operations, or related production environments
• Previous experience supervising employees or leading production teams preferred
• Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes and shop floor operations
• Basic understanding of automotive quality requirements and structured problem-solving methodologies

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Ability to make timely and effective operational decisions
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and manufacturing KPIs
• Knowledge of IATF 16949:2016 and VDA 6.3 requirements
• Ability to review and interpret equipment drawings and production line layouts
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and manufacturing documentation
• Ability to communicate in Korean, both written and verbal, is a plus but not required

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience in battery module or battery system manufacturing
• Experience in automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier manufacturing environments
• Experience with Just-in-Sequence (JIS) or high-volume production operations
• Experience with SAP, MES, or other manufacturing execution systems
• Exposure to PLC-controlled and automated production systems
• Experience supporting new production line launches, commissioning, or ramp-up activities

• Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
• May require shift support, extended work hours, weekends, and holidays based on production requirements
