Job Summary:
The Surgical Technician will assist in surgical operations, ensuring that the operating room is prepared and that procedures run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
· Preparation: Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
· Sterilization: Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and ready for use.
· Assistance: Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures during surgery.
· Environment Maintenance: Maintain a sterile field and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
· Patient Care: Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including positioning, draping, and providing preoperative care as needed.
· Specimen Handling: Handle and label specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
· Inventory Management: Monitor and manage the inventory of surgical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper functioning.
· Postoperative Care: Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room after procedures.
· Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
· Documentation: Assist in maintaining accurate and detailed records of the surgical procedure, including counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
· Compliance: Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as state and federal guidelines.
Requirements
· Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
· Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technician (CST) by a recognized certifying body (e.g., NBSTSA) preferred.
· Experience: Previous experience as a surgical technician in an operating room setting preferred.
· Skills: Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures, excellent attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and effective communication skills.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move patients and surgical equipment as necessary, prolonged periods of standing and walking, ability to handle physical and emotional stress.
Work Schedule:
Regular schedule is based on patient volume and surgical schedule. Schedule is set by the Nursing Management prior to shift’s start.
