Position Summary
The Bartender is responsible for creating exceptional guest experiences through professional beverage service, personalized hospitality, and expert knowledge of cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits. This position prepares and serves beverages in accordance with hotel standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming bar environment. Hyatt emphasizes authentic hospitality and guest engagement, while Marriott's best practices focus on creating memorable experiences and acting as a host beyond the bar.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Guest Service
- Welcome guests in a friendly, professional, and engaging manner.
- Provide customized beverage recommendations based on guest preferences.
- Build rapport with guests and create memorable experiences.
- Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns promptly and professionally.
- Maintain Hyatt and brand service standards at all times.
Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to recipes and standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of classic cocktails, current mixology trends, wine, beer, and spirits.
- Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all beverages.
- Prepare garnishes, stock ingredients, and maintain bar readiness throughout shifts.
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Actively upsell premium liquors, specialty cocktails, wine selections, and featured beverages.
- Promote outlet offerings and seasonal beverage programs.
- Support Food & Beverage revenue goals through suggestive selling techniques.
Bar Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, glassware, equipment, and storage areas.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, and rotating inventory.
- Follow opening and closing procedures accurately.
Cash Handling & Compliance
- Process guest payments accurately using POS systems. Maintain accountability for cash banks and transactions.
- Verify legal drinking age and enforce alcohol service regulations.
- Adhere to TABC, local liquor laws, food safety, and responsible alcohol service standards.
Teamwork
- Collaborate with servers, hosts, kitchen, and management teams.
- Support colleagues during high-volume periods.
- Participate in training programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain positive working relationships throughout the hotel.
Requirements
Required
- Minimum 1-2 years of bartending experience in a hotel, restaurant, lounge, or upscale hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wine, and beer.
- Ability to handle cash, and mode of payment transactions
- Strong communication and guest service skills.
- Must have a Food Handler Certification and TABC Certification (or local equivalent).
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred
- Luxury or full-service hotel experience.
- Previous Hyatt, Marriott, or branded hotel experience.
- Advanced mixology and wine knowledge.
- Proven upselling and sales experience.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 30-50 pounds.
- Bend, reach, stoop, and work in a fast-paced environment.
