Description

Location: Southern California
Compensation: Approximately $110,000–$145,000 base salary, depending on experience and capabilities
Employment Type: Full-time, on-site
Relocation: Strong nationwide candidates willing to relocate will be considered

About the Opportunity:
A growing dental laboratory in Southern California is seeking an experienced Digital Dental Lab Manager / CAD-CAM Design Supervisor to take ownership of digital operations, production workflow, team performance, and final quality control.
This is not simply a production CAD designer position. We are looking for a hands-on digital laboratory leader who can supervise internal and/or outsourced designers, troubleshoot complex restorative cases, communicate confidently with doctors, and help establish scalable systems as the laboratory expands its services to outside dental-office clients.
The ideal candidate combines advanced digital dental expertise with strong leadership, organization, problem-solving, and customer communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day digital laboratory operations and production workflow
  • Manage, train, and support in-house staff and/or outsourced CAD designers
  • Assign and prioritize cases to maintain quality and turnaround expectations
  • Perform final design and production quality control before cases are released
  • Troubleshoot complex restorative, implant, and full-arch cases
  • Review case designs for accuracy, function, esthetics, fit, and manufacturability
  • Communicate professionally with dentists regarding case planning, design decisions, technical concerns, and recommended solutions
  • Coordinate digital design with milling, printing, finishing, and other manufacturing processes
  • Develop and implement standardized workflows, quality-control procedures, and performance expectations
  • Identify production bottlenecks and improve efficiency without compromising quality
  • Help build scalable systems to support the laboratory’s continued growth
  • Maintain accountability across internal and external production resources
  • Remain hands-on when complex cases, workflow challenges, or technical issues require direct involvement

Required Qualifications:
  • Significant experience working in a digital dental laboratory environment
  • Advanced proficiency with Exocad and/or 3Shape
  • Previous dental laboratory management, supervisory, team-lead, or workflow-ownership experience
  • Strong knowledge of implant restorations, including All-on-X and full-arch cases
  • Experience with digital manufacturing processes, including CAD design, milling, 3D printing, and production coordination
  • Ability to evaluate and approve designs through final quality control
  • Strong understanding of dental anatomy, occlusion, restorative materials, and case design
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical and restorative cases
  • Professional English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and process-development abilities
  • A systems-focused mindset with the ability to create structure, accountability, and scalable workflows

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing both in-house and outsourced designers
  • Background supporting a growing or expanding dental laboratory
  • Experience communicating directly with dentists on complex implant and restorative cases
  • Knowledge of digital production equipment, software integrations, and manufacturing workflows
  • Experience establishing SOPs, quality-control standards, and production metrics

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a strong digital dental professional who is ready to take ownership, not someone who only wants to complete assigned designs. This person should be comfortable leading people, making decisions, solving production problems, communicating with doctors, and creating systems that allow the laboratory to grow successfully.
This is a full-time employee leadership position, not a remote, consulting, partnership, opportunity.
