The Position
Group Strategy Manager H/FJob Summary
As a member of the Group Strategy team, the Group Strategy Manager is a key stakeholder in Imerys Group (and its Business Areas) strategy definition and implementation.
He / She will support Imerys’ top management in their decision-making, thanks to rigorous strategic and financial analyses.
He / She will be leading various strategic projects or initiatives, and be responsible for selected workstreams, supported by Strategy Analyst(s) and the Group Head of Strategy, whom he / she reports to.
Scope of action: Imerys Group, all Business Areas & geographies
Key business partners:
Internal: The Group Strategy Manager will work with all Imerys Group entities - at both Corporate and Business Area levels - and with different functions (M&A, sales, marketing, finance, operations, customer excellence, science and technology, sustainability, …). Significant exposure to senior management (CEO, Executive Committee members)
External : The Group Strategy Manager will work with several external advisors (including Strategy consulting firms)
Key tasks and responsibilities:
The Group Strategy Manager is in charge of developing the key steps of strategic reflection, serving the Group and its businesses:
Key strategic initiatives: identifying potential strategic opportunity or challenge, frame the approach, set up the project team and lead the project (e.g.; 5-year plan, strategic due diligence in M&A projects, decarbonation roadmap, preparation of Capital Markets Day, identification of implications of market trends on Imerys strategy and corresponding projects development, etc.)
Market definition, assessment and competitive dynamics: define the relevant segmentation axes to analyse a market. Estimate market / segments size, identify and position Imerys competitors, estimate their market shares and dynamics, estimate and explain markets growth rates (historical / forecasted evolution)
Economics: understand the industry economic rules and logic through economic / financial analyses (in particular revenue and cost structures, profit pool). Support the optimization of Imerys economic performance through ad hoc reviews (e.g.; costs)
Strategic options: Identify growth areas for Imerys, formalize strategic investment rationale, action plan and key financial impacts (e.g.; origination of large M&A opportunities)
The Group Strategy Manager summarizes the analyses in a written and synthetic format, and discusses conclusions with other members of the Strategy team, or top managers at Group or Business Area level.
The Group Strategy Manager leads these analyses in various contexts, and works in team with other functions at Group or Business Area level:
Group-level strategic reviews, business Strategy with support of relevant Business Areas
M&A transactions (acquisitions or divestments), in partnership with the Group M&A team, where he/she brings a strategic perspective in the rationale for the acquisition - equity story - and support in the execution (e.g. providing input for a business plan, synergies)
Ad-hoc requests from Imerys Senior Management (notably the CEO and the Group Head of Strategy)
The Group Strategy Manager is responsible for full projects and workstream, involving multiple stakeholders (internally and externally), from project design to data collection (from reports, database, Imerys sources, interviews with internal/external experts), interpretation and challenge, synthesis of the recommendation and presentation to Senior Management
Education and Experience requirements
Education:
Top level Business or Engineering graduate degree
Previous professional experience:
Minimum 7-10 total work experience, ideally a combination of corporate strategy in a leading consulting firm and as part of an in-house strategy team. Alternatively, a minimum of 10 years of experience in marketing, or product management, ideally in a relevant industry.
Technical skills:
Strong analytical skills, attention to details
Synthetic mind
Knowledge of Strategic analysis concepts and methodologies
Skills in Corporate Finance
In-depth knowledge of Google suite or Microsoft Office
Languages:
Fluent English. Fluency in French is a strong plus
