The Lab Specialist is responsible for the successful and smooth operation of Oligonucleotide Synthesis laboratory functions through interaction with team members, customers as well as external service providers. The individual will manage multiple projects and on-going work activities of moderate complexity to ensure accurate, on time and safe completion.Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
Prepare and replenish synthesis reagents, solvents, and buffers following SOPs, focusing on safety and accuracy
Handling and segregation of hazardous chemicals/waste (e.g. azides, flammable solvents, etc.) in compliance with safety standards
Maintaining an inventory of solvents, reagents and consumables for the labs
Assist with receiving, unpacking and stocking incoming chemical shipments
Support senior staff with equipment setup, cleaning and basic troubleshooting
Performing routing glassware washing, inspection and rotation to support contamination-free synthesis workflows
Support calibration, preventative maintenance, and minor troubleshooting of synthesis and prep equipment
Assist with documentation for reagent preparation, waste disposal, and safety checks
Coordination with vendors and internal teams for chemical procurement and equipment servicing
Respond to equipment alarms or waste issues after-hours, as part of an emergency support rotation
Completion of all required process, safety and compliance training
Qualifications/Skills:
Typically requires a BA or BS degree in a relevant field of study, including completion of at least 1 year of college level coursework in Organic Chemistry.
Ability to routinely lift up to 40 lbs.
Strong interpersonal skills across disciplines.
Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
Ability to work unsupervised, manage time, and multitask projects
