About the Role:

The Design Research Senior Analyst is responsible for planning, conducting, and synthesizing user research to evaluate products, services, and experiences. This role applies a diverse range of qualitative and quantitative research methods to uncover user needs, behaviors, motivations, and pain points. The individual translates research insights into actionable recommendations that inform design decisions and business strategies.

The Design Research Senior Analyst collaborates closely with designers, developers, product teams, and stakeholders to ensure customer-centered solutions are developed and implemented. Through compelling storytelling, visual presentations, and documentation, this role communicates prioritized research findings and advocates for evidence-based design decisions. Additionally, the role contributes to the advancement of research practices by integrating mixed-method approaches and promoting data diversity across projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research Planning and Execution

  • Design and conduct end-to-end research studies to evaluate user experiences, products, services, and digital solutions.

  • Select and apply appropriate qualitative and quantitative research methodologies based on project objectives.

  • Develop research plans, discussion guides, surveys, interview scripts, and usability testing protocols.

  • Conduct research activities such as user interviews, contextual inquiries, focus groups, ethnographic studies, usability testing, surveys, diary studies, heuristic evaluations, analytics reviews, and A/B testing.

  • Ensure research activities adhere to ethical standards and established research practices.

  • Analysis and Insight Generation

  • Analyze research data from multiple sources to identify patterns, trends, unmet needs, and opportunities.

  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings into meaningful insights.

  • Prioritize research findings based on user impact, business value, and feasibility.

  • Translate complex research data into clear and actionable recommendations.

  • Develop personas, journey maps, experience maps, service blueprints, and other research artifacts.

  • Stakeholder Communication

  • Present research findings through compelling visual presentations, workshops, reports, and storytelling techniques.

  • Communicate insights effectively to designers, developers, product owners, project sponsors, and business stakeholders.

  • Facilitate discussions that align cross-functional teams on research-driven priorities and design decisions.

  • Advocate for user-centered design practices throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Collaboration and Design Support

  • Partner with UX/UI designers, product managers, developers, and business teams to inform solution design.

  • Support concept development, prototyping, and iterative design activities with research insights.

  • Validate design solutions through continuous testing and feedback loops.

  • Contribute to design reviews and strategic planning sessions.

  • Research Practice Development

  • Continuously improve research methodologies, frameworks, and tools.

  • Advance mixed-method research approaches by integrating qualitative and quantitative data sources to achieve greater data diversity.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging research techniques, technologies, and analytics capabilities.

  • Share knowledge, best practices, and insights with research and design communities.

  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to capability development initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Design, Human Factors, Behavioral Science, Market Research, Communications, or a related field.

  • Master's degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • Proven experience conducting user research and experience evaluation activities.

  • Experience working within UX, Product Design, Service Design, Customer Experience, or Digital Transformation environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead research initiatives from planning through analysis and presentation.

  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in agile or product-focused environments.

  • Ability to communicate research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Collaboration Skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively with designers, developers, product teams, and business stakeholders.

  • Strong facilitation and workshop leadership skills.

  • Ability to influence decisions through evidence-based recommendations.

  • Tools and Technologies

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Experience with service design and customer journey mapping.

  • Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design principles.

  • Experience working with large-scale digital transformation or innovation projects.

  • Familiarity with data visualization and storytelling techniques.

  • Understanding of agile product development methodologies.

Salary Range: AUD 92,400 - AUD 110,900
