Job Description
The Security Captain provides leadership, oversight, and operational support for security services across a variety of client locations, including remote environments where health, safety, and security are the highest priorities. This position is responsible for supervising security personnel, ensuring compliance with company and client policies, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting the effective delivery of security operations in a public and office environment. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Assign security personnel to posts and patrols while ensuring appropriate staffing coverage.
- Supervise daily security operations and ensure compliance with client requirements, company policies, and established procedures.
- Interpret and enforce security policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of operational and staffing requirements while documenting complex business processes and workforce needs.
- Translate operational requirements into functional processes and maintain supporting documentation.
- Prepare employee work schedules and review leave requests for approval or denial.
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address security concerns, improve service delivery, and foster positive working relationships.
- Receive, review, and resolve incident reports, irregularity reports, and other operational documentation.
- Complete and maintain required administrative records and business documentation.
- Conduct and oversee security-related investigations as assigned.
- Review reports involving property damage, unusual occurrences, incidents, and other security events to determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency responders, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Develop, update, and maintain post orders and related security documentation.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to operational issues outside normal working hours.
- Serve in an Incident Command role when appropriate based on the nature and scope of an incident.
- Provide transportation services using vehicles ranging from standard passenger vehicles to buses and off-road vehicles, as required.
- Provide emergency medical response, including CPR, AED use, basic first aid, and patient movement, within the scope of training and certification.
- Support additional operational responsibilities as assigned.
- Report unsafe conditions or sanitation concerns to management promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
- Directly supervise assigned security personnel, including coaching, performance management, and operational oversight.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Completion of at least two (2) years of post-secondary education is preferred. Candidates without post-secondary education must possess an additional two (2) years of directly related security, military, or law enforcement experience.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of full-time professional experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a related field.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS vehicle insurance policy.
- Ability to obtain an Alaska Guard License prior to employment. The applicant is responsible for the applicable licensing fee.
- Must obtain and maintain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License upon hire.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver position-specific security training and conduct general security training on a quarterly basis.
- Working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Ability to qualify for required credentials and certifications, including but not limited to TWIC and ATF Explosives Possessor authorization, when required by the contract.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and contract-specific software.
- Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a hair follicle drug screening, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near an approved testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest testing location.

- Ability to stand and/or walk for up to twelve (12) hours per shift during the assigned rotation.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English as required by the contract.
- Must comply with all company and client safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
CANDIDATES RESIDING OUTSIDE ANCHORAGE AREA:
Candidates residing in Alaska & the Lower 48 for any contract: For the purposes of pre-employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire (with the exception of drug testing, which will be conducted near the candidate’s place of residence). Employee is responsible for any travel expenses and needed accommodations related to pre−employment tasks that need to be completed in Anchorage, AK. This includes, but is not limited to, any safety training requirements, required pre−employment testing and/or training such as physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, and/or other testing required by contract/company (NSTC, APICC training, security licensing requirements, etc.).
Candidates residing in Alaska for Alyeska Contract: pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s area of residence within the state. The only exception is when the candidate lives in a region without the necessary service providers to complete all requirements.
