We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Developer in our Digital Channels domain. As a Junior Developer, you’ll help drive change in digital banking across Aotearoa New Zealand, with great benefits and a supportive environment where your contribution is valued.
Digital Channels builds and supports BNZ’s Internet Banking customer channels. We’re modernising our technology stack by modularising our front-end banking applications and moving toward a micro front-end architecture.
Ninja Turtles is the platform team for our Internet Banking development community. The team evolves and maintains the Internet Banking Shell that brings our micro front ends together, helping our talented teams deliver high-quality features for customers.
This is a great opportunity for a junior front-end developer to join a highly influential team in our Internet Banking community and learn from some of our most experienced and respected Senior Developers.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Wellington. This is a hybrid position with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.
What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Design, build and support robust, scalable solutions across the Internet Banking platform and related services.
- Support platform stability through BAU support, production issue analysis, incident resolution and root cause remediation.
- Contribute to technical design and the long-term maintainability of platform components.
- Improve reliability, performance, deployment quality, monitoring and supportability through continuous improvement practices.
- Collaborate through code reviews, pair programming, feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Keep system, support and architecture documentation accurate, current and accessible.
What is the team culture and environment like?
The team is collaborative, supportive and delivery focused. We value practical problem solving, ownership, knowledge sharing and strong partnerships with other development teams to deliver great features and outcomes for customers.
What skills and experience are required for this role?
- 2 Years practical experience in development and maintenance of technology applications.
- Front-end development experience / exposure to delivering enterprise applications.
- Practical experience with REACT, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript
- Exposure to unit testing frameworks such as Jest and Cypress.
- Exposure to building and deploying code via Ci/CD pipeline such as Jenkins.
- Ability to communicate ideas and designs clearly and concisely.
- Exposure to Cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
