Job Summary
The Evidence & Impact Analyst - Fall Prevention will lead literature/evidence review, synthesis, identification of knowledge gaps, and contribute to economic evaluation of effective falls prevention strategies for a general population of older adults in British Columbia. This includes conducting systematic searches of library databases, hand searches, citation chaining, grey literature search, expert consultations, cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analyses, return on investment (ROI) calculations, and implementation cost assessments to inform clinical practice, health authority decision-making, and provincial policy. The position contributes directly to advancing a community-based evidence-based falls prevention provincial plan that is of economic value and sustainable.
Organizational Status
The position Evidence & Impact Analyst - Fall Prevention will be based within the Centre for Aging SMART at Vancouver Coastal Health and affiliated with the University of British Columbia. The position reports to the Principal Investigators (Liu-Ambrose and Davis) and will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of policy partners across multiple health authorities.
Work Performed
Developing and applying specialized research techniques to conduct systematic literature searches (including library databases, hand searches, citation chaining, grey literature, and expert consultations) to identify effective fall prevention interventions.
Designing and analyzing novel implementation studies, including the collection and synthesis of data on program delivery, staffing, training, and health resource utilization.
Managing and analyzing large administrative and clinical datasets, ensuring data quality, reproducibility, and integrity in support of a cost-of-falls analysis in British Columbia.
Preparing technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and policy briefs, contributing to leading-edge knowledge translation and economic evaluation in public health.
Providing expert consultation to internal and external stakeholders on implementation strategies, cost analysis, and evidence synthesis, which may lead to joint authorship on scientific publications.
Collaborating with researchers and technical experts to develop new methodologies and conduct joint experiments related to fall prevention and health economics.
Supervising and mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting researchers, advising on experimental design, protocol development, and data interpretation.
Contributing to ethics and grant applications, and reviewing scientific papers and protocols in the area of expertise.
Attending biweekly team meetings, taking minutes, and ensuring timely follow-up on action items.
Staying current with developments in implementation science, health economics, and fall prevention, and applying this knowledge to advance research and practice.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors in study design, analysis, or reporting could lead to invalid conclusions, misallocation of health resources, and reduced credibility of the Principal Investigators and inability to complete the required report for the BC Ministry of Health. Independent judgement, accountability, accuracy, and attention to detail are critical, as results will inform health authority decision-making and provincial falls prevention policies relevant for the Age Forward Strategy.
Supervision Received
Works under the general direction of the Principal Investigators (Liu-Ambrose and Davis, with in instructions for decision-making, analysis, and reporting. Will receive guidance on overall program objectives and deliverables, key criterion and expected outputs, but is expected to exercise independent judgement in day-to-day tasks.
Supervision Given
Will oversee and complete work on search, critical appraisal, synthesis, data management, cost analysis, and preparation of reports.
Minimum Qualifications
University degree in relevant discipline or completion of a technical program and a minimum five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in Public Health/Policy, Health Services, or Science
Expertise in falls prevention, evidence review process, critical appraisal, evidence synthesis, and
reference management.
Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Word for preparing reports and publications along with ability to use statistical/econometric software (e.g., STATA, R).
Experience working with clinical trial data, and economic evaluation guidelines (e.g., CHEERS).
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a record of academic publications or technical reports.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, health authorities, and patient/public partners
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multi-component projects simultaneously.
