Position Summary
Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain Professional Competence and Performance
Maintain required clinical competencies and surgical knowledge through continuing education, annual training, staff meetings, professional development, and participation in professional organizations; demonstrate Gothenburg Health’s values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. - Deliver Safe, High-Quality Perioperative Care
Assess patients, develop and implement individualized perioperative plans of care, monitor patient status and outcomes, and provide safe care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases to ensure AORN standards and organizational policies and procedures are followed. - Promote Patient Safety and Clinical Excellence
Prevent patient injury, infection, retained surgical items, wrong-site procedures, medication errors, and physiologic complications; maintain appropriate patient positioning, tissue perfusion, normothermia, fluid/electrolyte balance, and system function; and respond appropriately to emergencies. - Advocate for Patients and Provide Education
Protect patient rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality; provide culturally competent, age-specific, ethical care; assess learning needs; educate patients and support persons; and actively involve them in care and recovery decisions. - Communicate, Collaborate, and Coordinate Care
Effectively communicate patient status, transfer care appropriately, collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, facilitate positive team dynamics, and use effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. - Maintain Accurate Documentation and Regulatory Compliance
Document care accurately and completely; delegate appropriately according to the Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions; manage specimens and surgical counts according to policy; and comply with applicable legal, regulatory, safety, and organizational requirements. - Support Quality Improvement and Organizational Effectiveness
Participate in performance improvement and quality review activities, performance evaluations, safety initiatives, and other organizational programs; meet attendance expectations; and perform other duties as assigned or incidental to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Unrestricted Registered Nurse License with Nebraska Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications or the ability to obtain with 30 days of hire. NRP encouraged.
