As an intern, you’ll work on real projects that deliver tangible benefits and measurable results. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about and help to solve some of the most important issues we face. You will experience genuine teamwork, and work alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues, while you work on live projects and operations. At the end of your internship, you will present your summer project to our staff.

About the Role:

The Natural Gas Trading Intern will gain hands-on exposure to both the physical and financial natural gas markets in North America. Working alongside traders, schedulers, analysts, and risk professionals, the intern will support commercial activities related to pipeline transportation, storage optimization, market analysis, physical gas transactions, and financial hedging.

This internship is designed for students interested in commodity markets, energy trading, risk management, and market fundamentals.

Key Responsibilities: 

Financial Trading Support

  • Assist traders with daily market analysis, pricing, and position monitoring.
  • Track and analyze NYMEX Henry Hub futures, basis markets, options, and regional indices.
  • Research market-moving events, including weather, storage reports, pipeline constraints, LNG exports, and regulatory developments.
  • Develop and maintain Excel and Tableau reports used by the trading desk.
  • Participate in fundamental supply, demand, and pricing analysis.
  • Monitor financial hedge performance and risk metrics.

Physical Natural Gas Support

  • Assist in tracking physical gas purchases and sales across pipeline and market hubs.
  • Learn gas scheduling and nomination processes.
  • Support monitoring of pipeline notices, maintenance events, flow restrictions, and operational alerts.
  • Analyze regional basis differentials and transportation opportunities.
  • Help maintain supply and demand balances for trading regions.
  • Work with schedulers and traders to understand physical delivery obligations and logistics.
  • Review storage inventories, transportation capacity, and operational positions.

  

Market Analytics & Projects

  • Conduct data analysis using historical pricing, flow, weather, and storage datasets.
  • Create dashboards and presentations for traders and management.
  • Participate in special projects focused on market optimization, automation, or trading analytics.
  • Present findings and recommendations to the trading team at the conclusion of the internship.

Qualifications 

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the USA for any employer without the need for sponsorship, currently or in the future.
  • Must have cumulative and major GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student for the Fall 2027 semester. Candidates should not have graduated before the start of the internship.
  • Active student studying finance, economics, business, mathematics, statistics, data analytics or similar.
  • Solid analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency is Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Python, VBA, SQL, or data visualization tools preferred.
  • Interest in commodity markets, risk management, and energy fundamentals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Students must be available for the full duration of the internship from May 17th - Aug 6th. Any personal time off must be approved by the supervisor as unpaid leave and should be noted with the recruiter as early as possible.
