A Brief Overview
Responsible for answering Centralized Scheduling phones to accept outpatient diagnostic orders and surgical procedures from physicians for hospital departments, interprets physician requests for diagnostic testing and schedule single to multiple tests according to required patient care protocols. Determines Medical Necessity per payer requirements and handles medical information along with transcribing medical orders.
What you will do
- Coordinates/schedules outpatient and inpatient tests/procedures per scheduler module. Coordinates/ schedules surgery procedures.
- Monitors the reservations, scheduling and other notification systems to initiate the insurance verification and pre-certification authorization process.
- Collects critical data elements required for insurance verification and insurance billing.
- Requests insurance verification.
- Prepares and distributes surgery schedule and outreach clinic schedules.
- Provides admitting staff information and forms needed to register patients to appropriate departments.
- Obtains room placement and alerts social services/coordinated care staff of need for early discharge planning when appropriate.
- Assists with projects to ensure a successful Centralized Scheduling program and to promote Avera Queen of Peace.
- Obtains information (including physician orders) from physician offices for scheduling tests, procedures and admissions in an accurate, timely and sequential manner.
- Ensures Medical Necessity for payer source by reviewing physician orders, diagnosis and organization of documentation as required. Assures follow up with physician office and patients as necessary.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- 1-3 years Experience working in a clinical environment.
