The Country Health and Nutrition Program Manager provides strategic and technical leadership for World Vision Sudan’s health and nutrition portfolio, ensuring quality design, implementation, monitoring, and emergency response.
The role leads strategy development, establishes programming standards, promotes best practices, and strengthens the capacity of staff and partners to improve health and nutrition outcomes, child wellbeing, and community resilience. The position also strengthens partnerships, coordination, visibility, and technical representation with government, donors, UN agencies, clusters, and other key stakeholders at national and regional levels.
Key Job Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Provide continuous supportive supervision and remote monitoring of project staff to strengthen performance and accountability.
- Deliver targeted job training and orientation to project teams based on identified capacity and training needs.
- Strengthen procurement and supply systems to prevent activity delays and improve project implementation and burn rate.
- Support MEAL and evidence-based decision-making by reviewing and analyzing Health & Nutrition assessment results, research, and findings.
- Develop and strengthen Health & Nutrition quality assurance systems, including reporting and registration tools, supervision checklists, quick reference guides, lookup tables, and monitoring charts.
- Provide strategic technical leadership for emergency and developmental Health & Nutrition programs, including response planning, program design, implementation, monitoring, and alignment with humanitarian standards; contribute to broader technical programming focused on child well-being, peace, protection, and opportunity.
- Provide technical support to Health & Nutrition research and learning initiatives, ensuring successful implementation, documentation, publication, and dissemination of research and program evidence.
- The response is aligned with regional and global HHN strategy, and represents the best possible address of the Response.
- Response receives on-site technical support to ensure quality implementation.
Resource Mobilization
- Develop capacity statements and contribute to program design for funding proposals.
- Continuously engage with National and state level MoH, cluster, SO, Donors and UN offices to expand funding opportunities for portfolio growth.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support nutrition and health programs.
- Work with the response team in exploring and pursuing multilateral, bilateral, and private health and nutrition funding opportunities.
- Liaise with donors and partners to secure resources for program implementation.
- High-quality, technically sound competitive nutrition/health proposals.
External Engagement
- Participating in all monthly Nutrition cluster meetings and submitting the sectoral reports in a timely manner
- Participating in all Health cluster meetings and submitting all the sectoral reports timely.
- Participating in all the Nutrition Sector Advisory group meetings supporting the actual Nutrition HRP and HNO portfolio.
- Participate in the national NISTWGs.
- Ensure H&N leads from each state actively participate in the state-level cluster coordination and any ad hoc meetings.
- Support the national Health and Nutrition Information System for IPC and EWARS by ensuring the field reports are timely submitted.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and UN agencies, to coordinate and advocate for nutrition and health interventions
- Support significant Response-level donor and technical partner engagements for nutrition/health resource development and information sharing.
- Represent the organization in relevant coordination meetings, clusters, and working groups.
- WV influence on the nutrition /health agenda to external partners, donors, academia, and civil society organizations is strengthened in the region.
Evidence and Learning
- Identifying and documenting evidence/ case stories from across programs during field monitoring and publishing with the Comms team.
- Coordinate with the project team and ensure timely review and submission of quality reports to Donors.
- Ensure the review and timely submission of monthly cluster reports (Nut, health).
- H&N total project Reach trucked on a quarterly basis and uploaded to Teams for H&N.
- Review existing supervision checklist, align with national cluster standards to be used uniformly across our H&N projects.
- Conduct routine project monitoring across 5 states where there are H&N projects for technical support and adaptive management of ongoing projects.
- Support the cluster through the SMART surveys and KAPS for Health and Nutrition.
- Conduct quarterly review and analysis of H&N reports for utilization (inform programming decisions).
- Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation plan for nutrition and health programs.
- There is documentation and sharing of nutrition-proven practices, operations research, and learnings which can be scaled up in programs.
- Comprehensive documentation of best practices and lessons learned in nutrition interventions during the response, and integration of these insights into future program planning and implementation processes.
Nexus Approach
- Ensure integration and coherence between nutrition, health, and other sectors in program planning and implementation.
- Advocate for a holistic approach that addresses the interconnectedness of nutrition, health, and other sectors.
- Strengthen the implementation of the Nexus Approach by ensuring integration in humanitarian/development/peacebuilding initiatives.
- These efforts include stronger and more focused joint analysis, strategic planning and programming, and more joint learning (field trips, evaluations, etc.) between humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding actors.
- Focus on working in collaboration and complementarity between humanitarian and development actors, and knowing that Field Offices will become more and more affected by climate change, food insecurity, and extreme poverty might lead to more conflicts over scarce resources and presence.
- Strengthen integration and collaborative working between development, humanitarian and peacebuilding projects.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Work:
- In collaboration with M&E, Communications review Our Impact annual reports and provide feedback as needed.
- Provide technical support and review for process monitoring and some outcome and impact M&E in collaboration with regional DME teams. Limited mainly to large and/or grant-funded programs.
- Together with the Operations Director, ensure Response understand nutrition /health related advocacy issues and campaigning inputs for strategy.
- Coordinate H&N community of practice (CoP) in the Response through coordinating the monthly session with the Response M&E advisor.
- Facilitate capacity building initiatives for staff and partners on nutrition and health-related topics.
- Response nutrition/health programming is implemented to at least minimum standards.
- The response is supported to engage effectively in the nutrition /Health advocacy arena.
- Support the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures related to nutrition and health.
- Contribute to organizational learning by sharing knowledge and experiences with colleagues.
- Attend and participate in weekly chapel services and daily devotional meetings.
- Carry out additional responsibilities and projects as assigned, including administrative and planning functions.

Required Education, Professional Experience and Skills for the Role
- Master's Degree in Public Health, Nutrition or related field. A deep knowledge of emergency health and nutrition issues that affect the region, with significant nutrition experience in the Response region.
- At least 5 -7 years of relevant experience in humanitarian emergency response, with a focus on nutrition and health in emergency settings.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring nutrition and health programs in emergency settings.
- Strong technical expertise in emergency nutrition and health, including experience in conducting nutrition assessments, surveys, and evaluations.
- Proven experience in providing technical guidance and support to enhance emergency response capabilities, with a focus on improving health and nutrition outcomes for affected populations.
- Experience in resource mobilization, including developing capability statements and assisting in program design for funding proposals.
- Knowledge of and experience in establishing standards, sharing best practices, and building partnerships with relevant stakeholders and institutions.
- Familiarity with the health and nutrition working group and cluster coordination mechanisms in humanitarian settings.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, particularly in a cross-cultural environment.
- Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple activities.
- Ability to represent World Vision, particularly with donors and partners.
- Experience managing field-level programs.
