Description
The Global Credit Risk department sets the credit risk strategy, ensuring that ING’s lending practices are in line with its risk tolerance and regulatory requirements and managing credit restructuring from a global and central point. Global Credit Risk plays a critical role via its credit risk policies, credit risk appetite setting and credit risk portfolio management in protecting the bank from losses due to defaults or economic downturns.
As a Retail Banking Portfolio Management Expert you will operate as a senior contributor, supporting strategic initiatives and helping shape the team’s portfolio management and governance agenda.
The Team
You will be part of the Retail Banking Portfolio Management team within Global Credit Risk. The team is responsible for overseeing credit risk performance across ING’s retail banking network, including Private Individuals, Private Banking & Wealth Management, and Business Banking. It collaborates closely with various stakeholders such as local credit risk teams and business line stakeholders.
Roles and responsibilities
As a Retail Banking Portfolio Management Expert I, you will act as a senior subject matter expert, combining strategic portfolio management responsibilities with deep expertise in Private Banking and Wealth Management lending, including Securities-Based Lending (“Lombard” lending), financial collateral management and asset-backed credit propositions. This role requires strong analytical skills and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to translate complex asset and wealth management concepts into sound global credit risk frameworks, policies, governance standards, and portfolio steering methods.
As a Retail Banking Portfolio Management Expert, you will:
Monitor and challenge credit risk performance across ING’s retail banking portfolios, with particular focus on Private Banking & Wealth Management and Securities-Based Lending activities.
Oversee portfolio trends, concentrations, risk appetite adherence, early warning indicators, watchlist developments, and emerging risks.
Perform portfolio analysis and risk-based reviews to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigating actions.
Support portfolio governance through preparation of materials for Portfolio Management Committees, Risk Committees, and senior management forums.
Act as subject matter expert on and contribute to the design, enhancement, and implementation of global credit risk frameworks for:
Securities-Based Lending (“Lombard” lending);
Wealth-management financing solutions;
Loan-to-Value (LTV) methodologies;
Financial collateral management;
Margin call and collateral monitoring frameworks;
Regulatory approaches and requirements with regards to financial collateral.
Provide independent challenge on collateral frameworks, monitoring requirements, and lending structures.
Assess implications of market developments, volatility, liquidity, concentration risk, and asset quality on portfolio performance and collateral.
Represent the second line of defense in interactions with regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders, supporting knowledge development and ensuring confidentiality and integrity in all engagements
Support CAS audits, ECB inspections, and external auditor engagements, and ensure timely responses and effective remediation of findings.

To thrive in this role, you bring:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field.
10–15 years of experience in credit risk, with strong exposure to Private Banking/Wealth Management/Asset Management along with extensive experience with Securities-Based Lending (“Lombard” Lending).
Demonstrated expertise in lending against financial collateral, collateral valuation methodologies, Loan-to-Value (LTV) frameworks, margining and collateral monitoring processes, investment portfolio analysis, financial markets and asset classes.
Understanding of Credit risk management frameworks, portfolio management and governance, regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Ability to work across functions and geographies.
