Description

Who we are looking for:

The Global Client Implementation (“GCI”) department drives the successful execution of initiatives for external clients onboarding on our Front-to-Back platforms and CRD.

We are looking for a seasoned and delivery-focused Project and Portfolio Manager with a strong track record of successfully leading large, complex, client-facing transformation programs.

As part of the Alpha Business Project Management Team, you will drive the execution of strategic initiatives for both internal and external clients of State Street Bank.

You will be responsible for managing programs across the full project lifecycle, overseeing key project deliverables or workstreams, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Why this role is important to us:

This role is the analytical backbone of the PMO. It owns the production of all governance reporting, from weekly status updates to board packs and steering decks and maintains the RAID log with the rigor required to make it a credible governance tool.

The department you will be joining plays an important role in the overall success of Alpha clients. The India team is key to achieving these results, and we rely on this role to build, strengthen, and engage the PM community in India.

In addition, this role is part of Alpha Business Project Management leadership and will contribute to its enhancement and transformation.

This role requires someone who can credibly challenge senior stakeholders, workstream leads, capability teams, and client contacts, and who has sufficient domain understanding to know when reported data or statuses do not reflect reality.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Program planning – maintain heat map MI (Management Information) and transform JIRA data into progress reports for different stakeholder levels including executive reporting and dashboard preparation
  • Serve as a mentor/advisor/decision-maker to project and program managers executing on Alpha strategy through various change initiatives and managing client expectations independently.
  • Risk, Issues & Escalation – maintains RAID; scores risks; produces RAID summary for governance packs.
  • Client-facing activities – oversee client MI and performance reporting in client-facing environments where expectations, communication, and accountability can be more demanding and nuanced.
  • Chair cross-workstream coordination forums and resolve blockers that cannot be addressed at workstream level.
  • Review and challenge all governance pack content before Program Director approval — RAG status, RAID entries, milestone status.
  • Ensure Alpha processes, procedures, and controls align with expected corporate behavior, comply with compliance standards and support corporate risk excellence standards that will facilitate clean audits.
  • Drive continuous process reviews and recommend improvements to senior management including SteerCo / Joint SteerCo coordination and stakeholder management.
  • Manage and support the design and implementation of large-scale, complex global and regional change initiatives. Support automation, digitalization and AI initiatives where appropriate.
  • Operate at a senior level across regions and global businesses.
  • Understand the external environment – best practices in Project and Program Management.
  • Attract, develop, and retain critical talent and build an effective project management team.
  • Hold employees accountable for outcomes and create opportunities to enable employees to realize their full potential.
  • Highlight and address emerging risks before they impact the business.
  • Develop and enhance the communication strategy to provide greater transparency around delivery to all key stakeholders.
  • Lead the PM community in India, including direct and matrix reports.
  • Manage multiple delegations with the objective of simplifying them where possible.
  • Serve as the PM lead for India and act as the point of contact for local India management and stakeholders on PM inquiries.
  • Vendor Management – oversee vendor management activities related to SOWs, resource onboarding, resource tracking, budgeting, forecasting, invoice reconciliation, milestone tracking and payments.
  • Manage and oversee Clarity timesheets tied to project financials and deferrals with corporate accounting team.

What we value:

  • JIRA and Confluence proficiency – comfortable maintaining trackers and dashboards.
  • Risk management framework knowledge – understands qualitative and quantitative risk scoring.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and team-working skills.
  • Strong analytical and technical capabilities, including excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple simultaneous tasks in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience in handling business deliverables, such as requirements specifications, operating models, and risk and governance frameworks.
  • Adopt common PMO standards, templates, controls and best practice

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • 16+ years of relevant work experience managing transformation units and change professionals in large financial institutions, with experience working in the global financial services industry or a similar organization.
  • Advanced project management skills supported by relevant credentials (PMP, MSP or equivalent).
  • Experience in Financial Services, Asset Management, and Asset Servicing.
  • Adherence to SLA timelines and KPI metrics as defined.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Visio and MS Project.
  • Proven leadership and presentation skills, with the ability to interface effectively with an executive audience.
  • Ability to coach and develop a high performing staff.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office and Project Management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent qualification.
