Job Description
The Communications Strategist acts as the strategic link between the client’s Brand marketing teams and the agency’s strategy, planning and activation teams. The role is responsible for shaping and refining campaign briefs, ensuring business and marketing objectives are clearly translated into strategic direction, and providing ongoing stewardship throughout the planning process. Working closely with stakeholders across the client business and the agency, the Communications Strategist ensures recommendations remain aligned with campaign objectives, audience needs and the intent of the client’s broader communications frameworks.
A key focus of the role is safeguarding the quality and consistency of strategic output. The Communications Strategist reviews and challenges media strategies, recommendations and plans to ensure they accurately reflect the approved brief and can be effectively executed by planning and activation teams. Acting as a strategic advisor and quality assurance lead, the role helps maintain alignment between communications strategy, media planning and campaign delivery across multiple brands, markets and stakeholders.
The role also owns the strategic narrative around campaign effectiveness and learning. By partnering with planning, activation and analytics teams, the Communications Strategist ensures post-campaign reports deliver meaningful insights, clearly connect results back to campaign objectives, and provide actionable recommendations for future activity. Through strong stakeholder management, strategic governance and a focus on continuous improvement, the role helps the client maximise the effectiveness of its media investment and build stronger, insight-led campaigns over time.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Brief Development & Strategic Challenge Definition
- Partner with the Client’s Brand teams to develop clear, actionable campaign briefs.
- Ensure briefs articulate the business challenge, communications objectives, target audiences, key messages and success measures.
- Identify gaps, ambiguities or conflicting priorities before briefs are issued to agency teams.
- Act as the strategic bridge between client stakeholders and agency planning teams.
Communications Strategy Stewardship
- Ensure agency responses accurately reflect the intent of the client’s global communications frameworks and strategic direction.
- Review and challenge recommendations to ensure they align with campaign objectives, audience priorities and brand requirements.
- Maintain consistency of strategic thinking across Brand campaigns.
- Ensure the original business challenge remains central throughout the planning process.
Strategy-to-Planning Translation
- Ensure communications strategies are translated into executable media plans and channel recommendations.
- Review media plans to confirm alignment between strategy, audience approach, channel selection and investment priorities.
- Partner with planning and activation teams to maintain strategic integrity from recommendation through implementation.
- Identify and resolve gaps between strategic intent and planned execution.
Strategic Quality Assurance & Governance
- Serve as the strategic quality gatekeeper for major recommendations, presentations and campaign deliverables.
- Establish standards for briefing, strategic responses and planning outputs.
- Provide constructive feedback to planning teams to strengthen strategic rigour and storytelling.
- Promote consistency in strategic output across markets and campaign types.
Campaign Learning & Effectiveness Storytelling
- Lead the strategic review of key post-campaign reports and major campaign recaps.
- Ensure reporting clearly connects performance outcomes back to campaign objectives and strategic intent.
- Distil data into meaningful business insights, learnings and future recommendations.
- Drive development of actionable learning agendas for future campaigns.
Stakeholder Management & Strategic Consultancy
- Act as a trusted advisor to the client’s Brand stakeholders.
- Facilitate alignment between client teams, planning teams, activation teams and specialist functions.
- Lead strategic discussions, reviews and presentations with senior stakeholders.
- Champion best practices and strategic excellence across the account.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 8–10+ years' experience in communications strategy, media strategy, integrated planning, brand planning, or a related marketing discipline.
- Experience working on large, complex brands with multiple stakeholders, business units, and campaign workstreams.
- Strong understanding of marketing, communications planning, media strategy, and campaign effectiveness principles.
- Experience reviewing and developing strategic briefs, communications strategies, media recommendations, and campaign reporting.
- Experience working across cross-functional teams including planning, activation, analytics, creative, and client leadership.
- Experience managing senior marketing stakeholders and facilitating strategic discussions across multiple disciplines.
- Experience within the hospitality, travel, luxury, premium lifestyle, or related categories is advantageous.
- Experience working with luxury brands and affluent consumer segments is a strong bonus.
