This position reports to:
R&D Senior Engineer__
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to successful project results in technology, software, product, and/or solution development, as well as associated Intellectual Property (IP). Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions.
The work model for the role is: onsite
This role is contributing to the MOTR/R&D Department in Shanghai. Main stakeholders are ABB MOTR China.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Lead the end-to-end electromagnetic and thermal design and validation of liquid-cooled PMSMs to meet market requirement, from concept to production.
- Proficiently utilize ANSYS Maxwell and Motor-CAD for multi-electric & thermal simulation and design optimization.
- Drive the design-optimization to achieve targets for performance, cost, and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with the systems and controls team on motor-controller matching and integration. Familiarity with ABB drive products would be an asset.
Qualifications for the role
- Master degree or above in Electrical Engineering or related field. 5+ years in PMSM design, preferably for off-road, automotive, or railway applications.
- Proficient in ANSYS Maxwell and Motor-CAD for electromagnetic and thermal simulation. Solid understanding of motor manufacturing processes and material characteristics.
- Knowledge of motor-controller matching and system integration requirements. Familiarity with control algorithms or embedded software is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Capable of guiding junior engineers and collaborating across teams.
