Lincoln Water System is one of 11 divisions in the City of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) Department. Position Summary
Lincoln Water System is seeking a highly organized, technically skilled, and collaborative Systems Specialist I to support critical operations across our Water Production and Distribution Sections. This is an in-office position located in Lincoln, Nebraska, where you'll work closely with supervisors, field crews, and administrative staff to improve operational efficiency, maintain critical data systems, and support programs that directly impact our community. This position provides technical and administrative support to the Water Production and Distribution sections by maintaining accurate, timely, and complete records across multiple data management systems. The position ensures compliance with Federal, State, and departmental regulatory requirements through accurate documentation, data quality control, and reporting.
Successful candidates will have experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), asset management software, or similar database-driven platforms. Duties include entering and maintaining work order and asset data, running queries, generating reports, performing quality control checks, and troubleshooting data issues to ensure accuracy and compliance and provide training and support to sections within Lincoln Water System, including support of the Lead Service Line Replacement program. Applicants should be able to describe their level of experience managing, querying, and updating database records such as asset, laboratory, or operational databases and explain where this experience was obtained and the types of responsibilities performed. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, mail-merging, SharePoint, and other office applications is expected, along with the ability to support written communications, mailings, and organized recordkeeping.
The position also involves regular interaction with the public and internal staff, requiring strong customer service and communication skills through phone, email, and written correspondence. Additional technical skills related to computer hardware and software installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting are beneficial, particularly when supporting departmental systems and security software.Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Driver’s License.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and Power Query.
- Experience performing data quality control, complex queries, and report development.
- Experience supporting regulatory or compliance-based programs.
- Experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
- Experience working in a water utility, public works, or regulated environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in computer science or related field and six months experience in the use of computer equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
