[What the role is]

The Sungei Buloh Nature Park Network (SBNPN) comprises Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (SBWR), Kranji Marshes, Kranji Coastal Nature Park, Lim Chu Kang Nature Park and Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat. Together, these sites form an interconnected network of wetland, mangrove, freshwater and coastal habitats that support a rich diversity of biodiversity and provide opportunities for conservation, research, education and nature-based recreation.
Bird monitoring and migration studies have been conducted at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve since the 1990s, with long-distance migrant tracking initiated in 2014. These sustained efforts have yielded a rich, multi-year dataset of bird census and migration data, supporting conservation management, ecological research and informed decision-making across the nature park network.

[What you will be working on]

As a member of the team based at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, you will be in an outdoor environment dedicated to conservation operations work. Your primary focus will be on the collation and in-depth analysis of recent census and migration data gathered by the team. You will leverage your strong data analysis to extract meaningful insights from this data.

In addition to data analysis, you will also support the organisation and management of long-term bird census, bird ringing and satellite tracking datasets, helping to maintain their quality, consistency and long-term usability for conservation and research.

In addition to your data-centric responsibilities, you will actively participate in data collection through conducting bird surveys and bird ringing operations in the field. You will also provide essential support for the broader operational needs of SBNPN, which include daily patrols, engaging outreach activities, and weekend duty.

[What we are looking for]

• Areas of study in Environmental Management, Life Science, Environmental Engineering, Geography, or related discipline in applied sciences for conservation

• Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis

• Experience utilising GIS software, including ArcGIS for spatial data analysis and visualisation

• Relevant experience in bird research and database management

• Aptitude in conducting biodiversity surveys

• Experience working in nature conservation areas, especially wetlands/mudflats will be an advantage

• Able to work outside office hours, including periodic weekends (at least once a month) and after office hours work when required

• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
